If it's not hurting our economy or national security, it's not considered war. Don't you people get it yet?

NK has been ogling that spot for years. It's funny, because before (and after) they allegedly fired torpedoes at an SK warship awhile ago, they were opting for peace talks with SK. I guess it just goes to show you that NK really isn't to be trusted, and it's important to be wary of them now that they've created around 2000 Low-Enrichment-Centrifuges (typically used for enriching nuclear material for civilian use), which can easily be converted to create nukes.

Anyway, I don't think this is a WWI scenario, where this explodes into an ally-axis frenzy. China is economically partnered with SK, and is a fly swatter looming over NK imo; they're largely on our side on this issue. The only real danger point is Iran, which provides NK with nuclear material iirc. I'm looking on aljazeera.com (excellent news source for the middle eastern world if you're not into the usual cnn and bbc stuff) to see what Iran might do. Now...if for some God-awful reason, China invades Taiwan...nah, they wouldn't do that. They haven't gotten off their export dependency on us (it's interesting to note that they're trying to, btw...)

Meh, North Korea. They are just a crazy poverty stricken country With a couple of cobbled together nukes they only MIGHT be insane enough to use and if they do they would likely get wiped off the map.

China on the other hand... China basically has us(U.S.) by the balls economically... if country's economies had balls...

Unless I'm mistaken. My opinion admittedly is pieced together from bits from internet news.

NK has the largest army in the world or something

Still smaller than China's.

But yeah, NK army is fairly big. Joining the military there is compulsory, so all their citizens are pretty much soldiers.

Not much is known about how much they spend on their military. We DO know how much their economy sucks, so it's likely that they wouldn't be able to sustain their massive military for very long (kinda like Russia in WWII..) Still, that doesn't mean that they *can't* afford it. Did you know they boast a literacy rate of 99 percent (according to the CIA world factbook[1])? There's a lot of brainpower there, misled as it is. I bet they can erect a fairly strong military industrial complex if provoked to.

You know what NK reminds me of? Krikkit, from Hitch Hiker's Guide.

i really like how most of the results for KOREA on google news are about the economic impact of these events rather than the events themselves. nobody really cares about korea anyway(bad football players; too short to defend goals) so the big question is ARE THE NUMBERS GOING DOWN?!?!?

i am glad the english-speaking world has their priorities in order

must find companies that specialize in CONCENTRATION CAMP supplies and invest all my money in them. i will be worth millions!!!!

i noticed this too, i was trying to find out what happened since this topic didn't give details and all i kept seeing was financial stuff and headlines about how various countries did not approve of north korea.  took me a bit too long to actually find one that said "oh btw this happened"

I'm in South Korea right now, and war has not been declared, I can assure you.

This isn't the first time North Korea has done something to piss off SK and USA since the armistice.  This kind of crap has happened several times before.

Dude you're in SK now? That's cool.

Quick question. Is it true that they're ultra-conservative (other than subsidizing LG, Sanyo, and those two other companies).

Um, like the US, there are various beliefs in Korea.  Not everyone is one thing or another.  I haven't really had much time to spend with Koreans, since I've been working on helicopters, as well as drinking my ass off every night.

But from what I have seen, Koreans are much more friendly toward Americans than people in other countries.  I don't feel like I'm going to get mugged/raped when I walk down a dark street alone.

Also they are really, really, really, really into Starcraft.  There are ads for the game everywhere.  Korean Starcraft love is not a stereotype.

And you can get squid or shrimp at any restaurant ever.

are you talking socially or politically conservative? Socially, yes Koreans are a bit conservative, you basically have to talk to anyone older than you in a completely different (more respectful)way. It's also not considered normal or OK to be openly homosexual in Korea. Politically, you kinda have to understand that the term "conservative" means different things in different places and lol if you think corporate subsidies somehow fall outside of the realm of being "conservative".
