I think this is really why im so incensed or whatever, but not because UGH SHES TERRIBLE GET HER OUT OF HERE but like, I guess I feel sad for her because, even if she thought she wanted this, she's only going to be known as the girl with that horrible song who was made famous as a joke. This is a kid whose parents and ARK MUSIC FACTORY took advantage of to make some money and in turn all of the internet points at her and laughs, and I just kind of wish we were living in a simpler time where your embarrassments were localized to your town or whatever, like back when I was a youngin'.

It's kind of hypocritical of me because yeah I watched that video and laughed at the way she said FRIEAYDAY and I laughed at the blog post that mentioned her monotone that sounded like an alien pretending to be a young girl, and at the end of the day yeah im part of the problem but most people can't help it, and that's kind of gross that for every person who just says OHH WHAT A SWEET GIRL SHE'S TRYING and gives the digital version of a pat on the head there's a thousand assholes who will rip the video apart in a brutal fashion and a thousand more who will retweet it and it's just AGHFAHGHH I HATE MODERN TIMES

I don't even know where I'm going with this I just feel the same way Hundley and for as much as I enjoyed laughing at that video I also feel kind of like shit.

gah I've reiterated this many times but I wish I could've been like old as I am now/more conscious during the 90s, like gah was looking at Goosebumps covers right now like would Twilight be the comparable thing now? Everything's so like glossy and perfect now + MINIMALISTIC or something. I hate the minimalist part in particular not that some stuff in the 90's wasn't single powerful image but it seems like everything is now. Makes 90's version of Twilight book covers with like a million things happening on the cover and hand-drawn by some guy named Rob and with this surrealistic perspective thing going on + weird idealized suburban house setting all kitchens in the world have red and white tiled floors. But yeah I really can't figure out if it's just nostalgia doing everything or if artwork for stuff is too glossy etc. now but everything since like 2003 has felt so plasticy/afraid to do strange/uncontrolled things with dynamics/afraid to get lost in something. I'm also starting to think that nobody can do anything good with art and things were only good because of nature/natural dynamics of how a film/paint looks etc. or something like nobody can create illusion anymore

haha not to be a total downer but I remember there was some paint program that came out that had like VIRTUAL PAINT or something??? I think more ideas should be done like this/stop obsessing over analog/digital and maybe it's just an ACCIDENTALNESS sort of thing/people trying to reduce art into a discrete series of choices. I just like the idea that the program would randomly slop paint on the screen and be partially out of your control/the total control aspect of it would involve being very good with the undo button. I had this ridiculous idea about something doing like a videogame physics engine but with sound/physics of sound pressure in a mathematical space and make the craziest ambient music ever by feeding it all these impossible rooms/spaces. And also make virtual instruments like a french horn x 1700 more tubes going on

Man so I have been really interested in 90s GIRLBOOKS lately and yeah all of the kids books in the 90s had the exact same feel.  Or rather they had only a handful of different styles.  But you can always pick out 90s girlbooks because they all had the exact same shades of pastels (especially pink, but yellow was there a lot too).  Like I have a stack of four of them on my desk right now and they ALL have the exact same shade of pastel pink, and all are from the late 80s to mid 90s.  If I had to describe the 90s in one word it would probably just be PASTEL.  On the other hand Goosebumps and I guess 90s BOYBOOKS (tho I don't think Goosebumps is as gender specific as Babysitters Club, I read a few of them as a kid but only really remember The Beast From The East in any detail) are very very neon.  Idk where I was going with this post but WELP.

I guess what I wanted to say is that I don't think you can pick books out as easily anymore, as a kid I felt like it was really easy to find certain series on a bookshelf.  I mean even now if I went into a thriftstore I could probably pick out Boxcar Children books from a mile away just because of the colors they used.  Nowadays everything is trying to look like Twilight which is just black boring bullshit.  Remember how they rereleased Wuthering Heights with a new cover to specifically look like Twilight??? I remember another book doing this too, I saw it in a store but I don't remember what it was, it was a classic though.  Crazy.
