Donnie and Joe Emerson were supposedly teenagers in 1979 whose father built them a recording studio. they only ever heard the weird blend of rock/soul/R&B/etc. the radio played in their secluded rural Washington land. it sounds very dreamy and strange, a little pocket of stagnant genre conventions... it reminds me a little of I Hear A New World, very hauntingly behind and ahead of its time.

that's a good story, I didn't know it. ariel pink covered that song on his album from last year. it's also in the opening scene from the movie the Comedy from the same year! they're making a comeback.

I have a rip of that game's CD, somewhere
I could host it somewhere if anyone wants it
never got around to figuring what convoluted technonecromancy would be needed to play it on a modern system
it seems wicked cool, though

eastern mind is really great- it's by osamu sato, who is mostly known for working on the video game "LSD: Dream Emulator"... i haven't played the sequel (called "chu-teng" btw, i think), but i've played most of eastern mind and it's a really strange twist on games like myst... the main concept is you die and are reborn as a variety of characters each with their own adventure.

also, osamu sato did another game, an extremely rare japan-only mac game called "four-sight" that i got working ages ago and is another myst-like adventure, although it was pretty different in theme than both LSD and Eastern Mind. here's a video of it:

haha yeah sure thing, I JUST found it in one of my old drives and tomorrow I'll upload it when I can use the university lab's lightnin-fast internet to upload it to some hosting space I have. (I'd do it where I live, but I dunno if it's a good idea to upload stuff to your servers on the wifi of the cafe next door :condescendingfoget:

anyone else who wants a link, lemme know

to be pedantic, it's definitely not a sequel to lsd though - it's a much more concrete game and has characters, an objective, etc., plus idiosyncrasies like its application of eastern faith

yeah definitely. you have an inventory and it's much more of a traditional adventure game, although it has a lot of unique traits as well... it's very different from LSD on a ton of levels and i think actually was made a bit before LSD was?? regardless all his games are neat... a+ games

chu-teng looks pretty cool, though the intro isn't as surrealist as eastern minds

by the way, looking that up in youtube, there are links to people playing things eastern minds and LSD dream simulator titled "weird game" and it always makes me cringe for some reason.  I think I've seen people do that with catamites stuff, and I guess it annoys me because it's such a gawking, superficial way to look at what these things that have a whole lot more depth than just the fact that they are not yer typical cookie cutter genre typed vidcon product.

on that note lilith I super liked crypt worlds and will prob write more words at you generally to that effect!
