ff8 rules.
FF8 is like as incoherent as FF7 except it has a really uniform, expensive look instead of FF7's aesthetic schizophrenia. What the FUCK was FF8 about? Insane teen melodrama fantasy about falling in love while you're in training in one of multiple(?) super teen mercenary organizations that have giant mobile city bases and operate outside the bounds of any world governments? Being a sulky brooding sociopath, cradling the emotionally broken girl who desires you for perplexing reasons while you drift on a spaceship you just cleansed of Xenomorphs?
Like, everything in the game is insane nonsense that operates purely on the level of adolescents trying to figure out how their confusing hormone storm plugs into a worldview based on a barely comprehended sense of geopolitics in the Adult World and crazy fantasy fiction. It's like Teen MegaForce. Hack FF VIII into Teen MegaForce.

i am upset- the first computer did have about 5k files but the viewed internet pages folder got wiped at some point and even if it didn't it looks like windows 98 got corrupted and i can't get it to recognize any drivers for peripherals aaaa

a couple were missing an os and the other two didn't seem to have any saved internet pages. agh-- here's an interesting mac hypercard project i've been trying to find out more about. it's called Archipelago and there's one page that has an extensive history and overview of the project that i'm reading now. i found out about it because of a really neat image i saw on google images:

i'm still a little confused by the actual goal of this group but as a general overview it was a group-blogging project connected by a series of hypercard stacks. if you would like to read more about it i discovered their homepage that is still around and all their work converted to html webpages. it looks like an amazing read honestly.

Someone in a selectbutton thread pointed out that WarioWare apparently originated as a chunk of Mario Artist: Polygon Studio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFdB2p3CHWw

i was actually gonna post a picture of a cool stained glass window by Harry Clarke i saw a few days back but its not on the web anywhere for some reason. he did some good illustrations of edgar allen poe stories too idk they are maybe too goth-y (or even... amanoesque..) for anyone here but i liked them as being in maybe the same mold as those old russian folktale drawings that chef posted a while back. http://picasaweb.google.com/118001395186713394923/HarryClarke#

we got pyst when it came out, might have been in a cereal box. I think I beat it in about two sittings. I remember it being Myst, but destroyed by tourism and poor leadership.

i wish i had an answer. its just completely bizarre. even right off the bat its just nuts. "hey i know you're like 17 and training to become some sort of soldier for a very unclear organisation governed by some strange pod creature, but if you're gonna use the training centre watch out, we have giant murderous plants and fucking dinosaurs roaming freely. oh, and to pass your exam you're going to have to defeat a giant flaming beast"

i really like the technological aspect of it though. i think at one point, when galbadia is trying to set up a live stream or something and they say "this will broadcast via radio waves because everything is viewed online and in HD these days"

but i completely agree, its a very surreal Teen Drama in a world of nonsense but expressed in a very polished format. i dont really understand it especially when it gets to like SPACE and TIME COMPRESSION and the whole of that really futuristic city (esthar? where you had to pass through some sort of ice canyon and walk on an invisible platform to enter) its just bewildering.

the implication is that they developed online HD broadcasts because they suddenly weren't able to use radio waves anymore, and it's p. cool that they thought about that

it is very bewildering, but i guess it's meant to be. immersion into the head of squall as his life collapses. whatever
