anybody know anything about the Turbografx-16? Like what could you play on it besides Bonk. Were there any good weird JRPGs for it?
this was my first "16 bit" system that i had as a kid (i'm pretty sure it was only nominally 16 bit, and was under powered compared to the other systems). games i remember:
bonk's revenge is a fun platformer. strikes the right balance between not being hair-rippingly frustrating and offering a lot of divergent paths to explore levels.
dungeon explorer is a top-down hack n'slash. does a lot of stuff w/ RPG elements, has like 10 different classes, and a pretty interesting game world. i remember liking it as a kid, even though i only ever got a few screens into it.
keith courage in the alpha zones shipped w/ my console, and it's a passable platformer. does some sort of cool stuff, like having a shop/easy enemy overworld where you can gain powerups for the underworld where you transform into a robot suit and fight harder enemies (like giant walking guns) and bosses. surprisingly grindy for a platformer, since you need to farm money to get good stuff.

legendary axe was a beat-em-up platformer deal, and i fucking hated it.
for some reason the TGFX had great pinball games. time cruise was my favorite, but demon and alien crush are good too. if you like video pinball at all, then i'd recommend them - varied boards, lots of different ways to get points, and neat minigames, plus a really kvlt atmosphere for demon/alien crush, and a mysterious feeling that i always got playing time cruise, like there was something hidden beneath its surface that i was missing
parasol stars is a completely great bubble bobble sequel. pretty similar gameplay with colorful graphics, hundreds of collectables, secrets, all sorts of shit
neutopia 1 and 2 were competent zelda-clones... but i was never a huge fan
http://www.youtube.com/user/spida1a this dude has a pretty decent series of reviews called turbo views, which reviews a good portion of the system's library
