Edith Jeter nevar forget

Epic Center was pretty great considering 99% of the time it existed there were no RPGs to be covered (lol N64)

I'm still pissed that N64 had like two RPGs for it. Quest 64 and Aidyn Chronicles were like the only ones that were in that N64 early 3D exploration style too. Imagine an actually decent RPG done in that style for N64. I guess Goemon was almost like that

http://earthboundcentral.com/2011/07/earthbound-delivery-system/ ridiculous pathfinding system in Earthbound only used for the delivery guy and apparently adapted for all these situations that would never happen in the actual game  (shit I'm getting nostalgic for the remake of James Bind I had planned with all these ridiculous attention to detail animations/AI. Like I wanted true dual wielding where you could aim two directions at once (for the theoretical situation that there are guys to both sides of you etc.) also like vehicles/some Halo-type shit also completely unnecessary permanent footprint system. I also wanted to switch faces on the same body for all these different combinations like Goldeneye. Maybe accessories too like hats)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8wyJPKxNNU  oh god saving this link for myself as graphics reference for my NES style game that'll probably never get made

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kH_DoxIwQH0&feature=related weird fever dream Doom2 mod of Goldeneye

really like how this guy went out of his way to build that strange metal crate structure on the ceiling of that one corridor in the facility level!

also i love the uh little tv in the custom goldeneye level showing that inexplicable repeating loop of the green and black skateboard guy just because if there had been some kind of level editor included in the original game when i played it first then i really think i would have spent all my time just piling those ridiculous tvs on top of each other and blowing them up in huge chains

(actually digression: i suddenly realised today that i was probably only like 9 years old when i played Goldeneye, Mario 64, Ocarina Of Time etc and this seems an unbelievably young age to be suddenly thrust into the world of strangely gesturing polygon people / virtual spaces and motion!! if there is still computer shit in 30 years / world hasnt turned into a cormacmccarthy doom mod then i kind of wonder if letting little kids play around with these weird, busy systems of representation and movement and reflex actions will be seen as kind of like the way that 1950s housewives were pumped full of amphetamines to help them lose weight.

in the future the only videogame will be a gentle physics puzzler where you move big white balls around to soothing eno music and it can only be played by Certified Astronauts)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZidDb263aTY one of the coolest things i've seen done w/ the source engine.  gets interesting at about 1 min in

this is cool but is it wrong that what really freaked me out was the music playing in the background of the cinema place at the start..!

ahhaha thanks catas. i really like the rhetoric means in that specific cmic (red circle hell yeah). i wished the rest of the comics were like that, AN ANNANANNN ANA ANARCHY!! but these are still good. Kinda like more goofier and more naivistic than what you expect from that PBF-like comic. yeah like more gritty/brutal absurdism but i certainly enjoyed him shitting on birds so that they won't feel cold and likewise ahahah hell yeah makes sense. fogetcrazy the comic...

ps the urgency comic (the guy runs in NO TIME TO LOSE!!!) was good but don't ya think it didn't even need a hah hah-conclusion rather than urgent and desperation to a point of violent resistance NO!!!! HELPPP!!!!! PLEASE DONT!!! *rami leaps over people in frenzy, somehow manages to snatch away leaps out of window right into the next block thru an open window things set afire for no reason-* okay maybe does not sound funny/idea needs honing more ideas but yeah the basic idea of ENERGY a violent, non-cohesive a links to the past/anarchy frog comic...
edit you don't need a reason | to vomit | great minds vomit alike etc etc ga gag barfbarfbarf

have there been any efforts / ongoing projects to mod Symphony of the Night?  probably my favorite game of all time, it'd be cool to see new castle maps for it.

Anyone know any good file-sharing forums for trading cool downloads? I used to use etceterea forums before it was taken down, but i know there are a few good ones around.

also i've a feeling it was posted here already but i kind of want to play the Batman Doom Mod just because i like the idea of this strange empty/flat urban world filled with shambling black dudes in sneakers holding knives

there's probably some really awful sound effect when you hit them too

batman is like 3 ft high

you know how they used film tricks to make the actor for frodo shorter

that's pretty much the reverse of what they did for batman in the movies

oh yeah and:

oh man all those videos are so good. i like The Dark Eye one especially for seeming to play on the weird mixture of stiffness and extreme detail in prerendered stuff. big empty screensaver house with really carefully delineated floorboards and constantly twitching old guy in corner. i should probably try to look up more mac games in general since the only one i know is playing Sim Ant at my uncle's house when i was like twelve!

the hardcoregaming101 site (much better than it sounds!! i swear!!) has a real good post on these strange polygon fighting games. unfortunately youtube vids don't really capture the weird crispiness of them but the screens are excellent anyway

edit: ugh clicked "post" by mistake :/ anyway

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhOHJ9zw3rM&feature=related another Test Drive-esque polygon driving game!! i really like these!! again the huge flat empty green spaces are probably a big part of that. sounds like this one had some kind of level editor, which is cool.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pffP-OyzLWk ELDER SCROLLS yes but the music is like the perfect example of what vellfire was talking about as Mysterious Forest Music stuff.
really hope theres an oblivion mod out there which replaces all the graphics and music with these ones

hell yeah!! whoooop!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xk7p7o0Af8&feature=fvsr whoooooooop!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uc9Ny7_QzT8&feature=related holds honourable distinction of being maybe the dorkiest doom mod in existence but i still like the tiny cartoony characters wandering around enormous 3d landscape

that track editor is really cool.  you might already know about it, but one of my favorite games for the genesis was hard drivin' ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7cTCW4487Q ) with its low-rent primitive 3-d game world.  my brother and i were convinced that if you hit the cow against the barn in the right way it would unlock a secret.  a lot of my time spent pre-internet gaming was trying to discover secrets in games that in hind-sight were totally unrealistic.

i hadn't seen hard drivin' but it looks good! also yeah i think racing games in general are good at promoting a sense of mysterious secrets just out of sight in part because of all these details just flashing past. the dark spot to LEFT of screen after 5.00 minutes of the Super Star Wars sandcruiser section is actually a sarlaac pit, veer into it after the third jawa scout to enter into a boss battle with the sarlaac's underground form and skip straight to mos eisley.... ram the dinosaurs tail in diddy kong racing to hear he Moan and lower the bone bridge to Warp Zone....

altho to be fair since racing games included stuff like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97ewvP_1XZ8 there was really every reason to be suspicious. the elephant sounds in this video are pretty upsetting!

http://hardcoregaming101.net/lovedelic/lovedelic.htm another hg101 article! what a good site. Moon: Remix RPG sounds incredible but the only youtube vids are in japanese!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77sywjaIMxQ ahahahahhaha uh don't ask me

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_f1lRvWfmfg jesus christ

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzkLusOjUhY are these all from the same game??? kind of looks like there was some kind of 64DD movie maker.

actually it sounds like all these were made in the Mario Artist programs that i guess came with the 64DD http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mario_Artist this is pretty neat! a 3d version of goofy gameboycamera stuff
