um hi I was just wondering if there is anything worth caring about in this strange territory of gaming or if it's all derivative/remakes/awful games. Also just games that make you do a double-take like you would think they were made 15 years ago but are brand-new games hence the topic title

I contribute this

I remember hearing about some cool Xbox Live games from you guys, we could um collect them here in this topic

My other half has downloaded quite a few of the 16-bit style Indie games on Xbox Live Arcade and has enjoyed them a lot. Apple Jack looked pretty fun and definitely looked SNESy.

That's a video of the trailer for the game, which looks pretty badass actually now I watch it. Apparently it's really bloody hard though.

Apple Jack looks good but dear god I just figured out what I hate about a lot of these indie platformers. The levels are always like these closed-in mazes with as much hazards/etc. packed into a random space as possible. The game looks like Yoshi's Island to me but that game had lots of open space and great heights etc. and felt like you were actually going somewhere. Donkey Kong Country had a lot of insane challenging levels but they still made it look less artificial/mazy areas actually took place in MAZEY places (twisted bramble maze, beehive maze etc.)

I played dino run for a while, here's a demo since all the youtube videos were terrible and had some super dumb person talking or some awful music playing http://www.pixeljam.com/dinorun/ I guess it's one of those free-to-play things because afaik all you get with the full version is a couple more levels, hats, and the ability to customize the appearance of your dino

it's a good gameplay concept and it looks and sounds good

the levels are semi-random, which is actually kind of annoying because you can't remember where to get dino egg #3, but it adds replay value or something I guess

Depends on what you mean by extension of the 16-bit era. These current games take advantage of so much more hardware power than what was available to games back then. Are you just referring to 2D games or games that follow the style of 16-bit games in terms of gameplay?

I think (correct me if I'm wrong) but he's basing it on like the overall feel of the game, coupled with its graphics. Like games you'd see and think "Oh that looks like a cool SNES game" but OH NO WAIT it was made last year.

I THINK anyway.

It does depend.

For the record, it's the most I've ever spent on a game that I could spend any amount of money for. And it was before any of the other games in the pack were even announced.
