That's awesome, but I wonder how it affects the "Don't Say Gay" bills that are being advanced in Missouri and Tennessee.  I mean, I don't see any possible way the two can coexist.  There's no way you can say WE'RE PROTECTING LGBT STUDENTS FROM DISCRIMINATION...BUT LEGALLY YOU CAN'T ACKNOWLEDGE THEY EVEN EXIST IN SCHOOL.  Hopefully those acts will override the Don't Say Gay ones.
That type of law is very likely to be unconstitutional (1st amendment, possibly the 14th amendment). When they get passed, my hope is that some civil rights organization will sue, leading to the judge putting the law on hold as it's examined by the court process. If it's not put on hold for the duration of the court process, it could take years for the issue to be resolved.

christ it's not surprising at this point at all but the comments...always the comments...

What needs to happen is we need to keep the glbt away from the students.

They act like the "student" needs help.

Keep these people away from kids.

GODDAMN THOSE GAYS ASKING OUR GOOD GOD-FEARING CHILDREN TO NOT BULLY THEM.  THOSE MONSTERS.

Quote
"It simply states homosexuality will not be introduced to children until they are age appropriate"... hopefully when its introduced, it is introduced as being wrong and against the will of God.

The sad fact is it is 2 children committed suicide because they were sexually confused. A problem exacerbated by those who want to indoctrinate confused vulnerable little children into an unnatural lifestyle.

welp i'm gonna go puke an infinite stream of puke now because fuck this world.  shit like this is why i'm not interested in finding work in nashville despite it being so close by, because as bad as kentucky is about this stuff it's not as bad as tennessee.

a lot of people are defending it by saying IT ONLY APPLIES TO ELEMENTARY/MIDDLE SCHOOLS, THEY'RE JUST WAITING FOR IT TO BE AGE APPROPRIATE but lol i don't see the same being done with straight relationships and also I'M SURE KIDS WHO GROW UP THINKING HOMOSEXUALITY CANNOT BE SPOKEN OF ARE NOT GONNA HAVE WARPED VIEWS OF IT IN HIGH SCHOOL AND SURELY WON'T BULLY KIDS PERCEIVED TO BE GAY

e: i've edited this post like a million times but i wanna add that the tennessee bill applies to elementary/middle schools but the missouri one applies to all public schools as far as i've read

e: this documentary is from the 90s but seriously check it out dudes because it shows THE HORRORS of *gasp* telling kids that being gay is a thing

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzrznSpf8V4

The most telling thing is the kid who thinks interracial couples are considered gay as well, because as far as society is concerned all taboo relationships are just "Other"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EH5gfqC8V6g

this is the cutest thing, i love when kids are so matter of fact.  "IT'S LIKE *DUH* YOU'RE GAY".  kids give no fucks, they ain't got any hate in them until it's put there.

That was indeed adorable.

Kids are 1000 times smarter and capable that what most adults give them credit for.

Though, me, as a kid? I was one of the EXCEPTIONS. I was a moron. But I think that have stemmed from just being awkward and not good at reading people or 'reading between the lines'. As a kid I basically blindly followed adults because I lacked the confidence to make up my own mind. I suppose that's what my instinctual dislike and strong distrust of authority comes from now.

I always find the concept of kids-adult conflict interesting, primarily because adults were they themselves once kids yet there exists misunderstanding and a gap in judging the other side. Remindsme of Battle Royale though i'm not sure if that was the point of the movie.

I'll make sure to look tomorrow Vell. I had a good time tonight and hung out with one of my roommates' pals who happens to be a manager at  two clubs, one  apopluar gay club in Dc.  Anyway he's a fun guy- we hung out and drunk ale and watched Robot Chicken- but I name no names.

it's like a a stereograph, but instead of two images next to each other you have an animation where the two images alternate quickly. I was never able to do that thing where you have to cross your eyes to see the 3D effect, so these are pretty cool. If you google something like "wiggle stereograph" you can find tons of this stuff

For example http://www.theatlantic.com/infocus/2012/02/the-civil-war-part-3-the-stereographs/100243/

Today Dave Brubeck's son Chris and his band came to my hometown for a gig and my college's Jazz Band had a clinic with them. He was rather complimentary towards my playing and I'm still kind of freaking out about it.

Does anyone else think we need the topic of the week back?

Stuff like:
-Health Care
-Drug Legalization
-Abortion
-Gender Issues (ok we did this one to death, but there is seemingly always more)
-Civil Rights
-Censorship
-Copyright, Trademark, and Patent Laws (Namely on how long they last and how easy it is to acquire them)
-Religion
-Religion and government
-Prison System
-capital punishment
-War and Military issues (Spending, veterans, general ethics, DARPA, etc.)
-Science!
-Animal Rights
-Environmental Protection
-personal protection (Firearms, blades, body armor)
-Immigration
-Economics
-Child Support
-Nuclear Energy
-Political Corruption
-Forms of Government (Democracy, Republic, Monarchy, Totalitarianism)
-Law Enforcement

Could all be topics. Though admittedly these aren't all perfect for an actual long conversation on them and lacking the numbers in member might cut down on responses, but it might help draw attention and new posters (as well as keeping them).

EDIT: or even the "Ask a <insert type here>" topics... Though I can't help but worry that those might bring about assholes.

Man I did topic of the week for a while a few months ago, but when NUMBER 6 turned into a kind of flame war between Alec, some other guy (bunnymilk or some shit?) and myself I kind of SOURED against the idea.

It basically turned into some really derogatory and unnecessary things being said about belief systems of others and made me cry ;_;.

I think the final post on the topic was a crude bible passage about a man's genitalia being oxen-like, as if that somehow meant "NO RELIGION AHS VALUE LOLS".

I'd be happy to start it up again now we have a more active leadership re: people being offensive dicks (ho ho ho).

I originally never participated all too much admittedly. Oddly enough I have interest in such an idea now. Maybe you don't know what you have until its gone.

Actually as you've already had like some IDEAS (and as my follow through is sometimes SHADY oh no) maybe you should do this?

JUST AN IDEA!!!

Only thing to be careful of is that a lot of the topics thought of have like kind of UNANIMOUS SUPPORT/AGAINST one way or the other around places like this (like I don't imagine there'll be many NEVER IMMIGRANTS NO BAD NO posts on an immigration thread), but maybe that's an assumption on my part? Fuck it, go for it!
