What was all that stuff in this thread about? Not going to read it, also not sincerely requesting a summary (which I would not read.) Guys, DON'T LET YOUR SLAVE CASTE GET ROWDY.

I have prepared some documents for you here look at t The choice is clear...but it's up to you.

Your entire generation has this problem (imagine this part in Don Draper voice.) All of our greatest monuments are made from slave bones. You can't have High Achievements if you're trying to appease the braying from the raw materials your projects are made from and we CAN go to Mars in a blood-fueled rocket by 2020.

kanye west appears at press conference wearing controversial slave bone necklace.  when called on it kanye begins to mumble and stutter.  only audible word is "haters"

i guess this is some kind of argument game to you (is this conscious? it has got to be, it's like a minefield) so w/e, do your kinds of narratives of events to your hearts end boy. i'll stay away and let this suffocate everything.
I'm sorry, but I can't respect it when someone tells me I'm just out to make fun of people, and then tells me this whole discussion is just an "argument game" to me. I'm not doing the debate olympics here. The only reason why I'm putting in the time and effort is because I think this is an important issue. And I think that people who are on the wrong side of it deserve nothing less but to be unequivocally denounced.

And furthermore, I don't believe in trying to meet impossible standards of amenity. Sooner or later, in a discussion like this, someone's going to be offended. I accept that, both as the offended and as the offender. Sometimes people deserve nothing less but to be called out and confronted with the viewpoints they have uttered and their consequences. It's always good to try and avoid it, but not at the cost of telling the truth, because that's a futile cause.

It's been delayed for a bit for various reasons. I was sick for a while so a couple of work related things sort of piled up. I don't really have a deadline yet but my expectation is SOONISH.

Last week I had vacation on my hometown which is a simple municipality in the provinces and also a summer capital so yea it's fun to take a few weeks of without internet though technically there is internet in that area I just wanted a change of environment, funny what those simple experiences bring to you. So Internet though full of resources doesn't have everything.

cispa is a pretty bad thing that would destroy or change huge swaths of the internet:
http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20120410/12180518442/cispa-is-really-bad-bill-heres-why.shtml

unfortunately there's no campaign about it like there was for sopa and pipa because google and amazon and apple and facebook all have a vested interest in it passing and aren't there to astroturf public support like they did last time

*'m gong back to watching the final Drag race of the season, but realized that many gay men use the b-word amongst themselves for themselves which leaves me a bit conflicted after all the stuff we'd been discussing. I doubt I'd ever say it to a woman friend but... ? Things are not so cut and dried after all. However, I don't want to stir up the specters again.

I don't really want to have an entire discussion about this all over again, but I did a little searching around about this matter and found this interesting thing:
http://www.jmu.edu/socanth/sociology/wm_library/Ezzell.Reclaiming_Critical_Analysis.pdf

It says the following about gay men in particular:

Quote
We have also heard gay men use “What’s up, bitch/es?” in a friendly way. Given the cultural association of gay men with femininity, this usage reinforces the idea that gay men are “like women,” and that women have something essential that makes them “bitches.” We’ve also heard gay men use “bitch” as an insult to other men.

That's all it says regarding gay men (as far as I've seen) and I haven't read the entire thing, but I read the first several pages and it seems like it's a good breakdown of how this word in particular has been used and why it is harmful.

That paper in particular is against the idea that the word can really be reclaimed in any positive way by women (which I'd agree with personally but I'm a little on the fence since I think there's a lot of good arguments on the other side as well).  I'm pretty skeptical about the idea of gay men taking it though, since I sort of see it as not their word to deal with.  I feel like it's too much like if straight women wanted to start endearingly calling each other faggots.

I feel the word is occasionally applicable to certain people with certain patterns of behavior . . .  rarely.

Ru 's apparently going to announce the results at the reunion next week. And as for the video below, I think I'll watch it later- I'm going to put my feedback up on Facebook first. I wonder if she's sincere about taking audience feedback into account. She'd better be!

That's hilarious.  Other good news- the president endorsed safe-schools and anti-bullying acts a day or two ago, and the EEOC just ruled that gender-identity discrimination is covered by Title VII.
Mind you, the fight is far from over...

That's awesome, but I wonder how it affects the "Don't Say Gay" bills that are being advanced in Missouri and Tennessee.  I mean, I don't see any possible way the two can coexist.  There's no way you can say WE'RE PROTECTING LGBT STUDENTS FROM DISCRIMINATION...BUT LEGALLY YOU CAN'T ACKNOWLEDGE THEY EVEN EXIST IN SCHOOL.  Hopefully those acts will override the Don't Say Gay ones.
