From what my parents tell me:
-as a very young kid (toddler) I would go to the kitchen and stack and organize cans, this later lead to me organizing my hotwheels/matchbox cars by color and type.
-As a kid I was very picky and foods (I know every kid is picky) but my issues were a bit more noticeable, I also SPECIFICALLY had issues with the textures of foods.
-I've always been kind of clueless in social situations (but I've learned, and at this point I think that's not a noticeable aspect)
-I currently DESPERATELY want to 'complete' my various backlogs. (games, books, movies, tv)
-I've moved 9 times in my life, each time felt progressively worse. (difficulty with change)

lol those are just the trials of life dude. I'm pretty sure I hit every single one of those myself at some point and I'm pretty sure I'm not autistic.

When I was in elementary school we lived right next door to the school and my moms used to make us catch the bus anyways because there were woodlands inbetween my house and the school. The only bus that would stop at my house was the short bus with the handicapped kids so I ended up riding that one.

Well, I'd leave everyday a little early cus that bus would leave early and one day in the second grade my buddy asked the teacher why I had to leave everyday and as I was walking out the classroom she was actually explaining to the class some shit about special kids.
It wasn't until a little later when I was asking my mom about the bus that I put two and two together (the teacher assumed that I was also handicapped and was pretty much telling the other kids I was "special"). It didn't really bother me though because A) I was like seven and didn't realize it for awhile afterwards and B) that teacher was really hot.

My mom also put me in a speech impediment class because I picked up a lisp from my cousin (from hearing him speak). The lady teaching the class was tryin to teach me how to sound my "S"'s through my teeth.

IE: "thtay over here!"

The other kids made fun of me and were saying I sounded gay (I don't think I even knew what that was yet) so I told my mom I didn't want to go. She said I needed to learn how to speak correctly so I listened to how other people spoke and taught myself.

For awhile after the class and the bus thing I went through a phase where I wondered if I could have possibly had something or maybe they thought I did when I was real little cus I hardly ever talked at all and was incredibly anti-social with kids I didn't know. But I really don't think so. I think shit like that happens to alot of kids when they're real little (or maybe back in the day) where adults think they're slower or challenged when they really aren't, just different.

Thank you Farren. Just to be clear, I'm not slighing either earlchip or Dada; All I'm asking is that you perhaps discuss this via PMs rather than having a very disruptive public fight in the middle of  the forum for all to see.

There's a time and a place And' I'm just concerned that this may be generating more heat than light. I'm all for airing out of issues I'm just not sure that public castigation is the way to go in this case. I do feel that things should be discussed and blame heaped in the right areas if necessary; I'm just concerned this may overheat and infect other areas of the forums. I'm also annoyed that they had to have the discussion in THIS thread, instead of, say, giving it a thread of its own, thus giving me the opportunity to avoid the discussion if I so chose.  Farren, however, pointed out that it's possible to avoid being drawn into the fight even if one's posting in this thread, so I'll do my best to follow his example.

you're so dense dada. I've acknowledged it before, and I'll do it again: I defended a guy who thinks some pretty bad things and said some awful things to vel, and I do apologize for any understandable stress this caused her or anyone. I don't defend or support any of the things he said. no, I'm not wrong about mince, but maybe I was wrong to stick my nose in. I should have just let it go.

I'm not going to pretend to speak for vellfire here but just try giving her that apology and see if she accepts it. or I can save you the effort: she won't, because by that account, you're perfectly fine with what you did in principle.

and you're right, I'm not the only one responsible: YOU have played a much larger role than I. have you apologized to her? you are the one who let this go on for so long, you're the one who didn't do something about this sooner, you're the one who let it get to this stage and decided "welp let's just permaban him" instead of a smarter solution, like giving a temp ban as soon as he made an inflammatory post and removing offensive content.

I actually did apologize to her for not being able to prevent things from getting so bad that she had to leave. and I told her it's an understandable reaction. we've actually been in close contact from the moment this whole thing started, before she even decided to leave.

and yeah, you're right: I should have banned inri much sooner. in fact, I would have, had I known he had two accounts at the time I banned his first over your vocal objections.

if there was a smarter way to deal with this then I'm sorry I didn't take it, but as far as I can tell I did what was best: defend the person who was wronged and object to what I thought was a very unfair situation, and not back down and let that situation go unanswered.

you're awful, man. you've never even considered the idea that you should apologize to me, have you?
I do apologize for any understandable stress this caused you or anyone, but I stick by everything I said in principle anyway.

yeah, you're right, I'm sorry. but I think we're done now anyway. feel free to ignore this whole situation and talk about what you were talking about.

So this place is still hopping along huh?  Crazy, I've spent a good majority of my teenage years here.  Good memories, GW probably crafted a lot of who I am today.  I'm glad its still around. :)

On the topic of autism again (is anybody paying attention??):

I've been thinking about stuff like this lately, especially with regards to autism and sexuality (those things are not related at all). See like, some people hear about someones "autistic tendencies" (or a list of things that got them diagnosed "autistic") and they either think "wow that's so weird, autism must be a strange thing to have" or they think "yeah man that's pretty normal I think everyone does that to some degree". It's pretty interesting because most people think of autism like any other disease, like this binary "you have it or you don't" (even with the various gradations of "you have autism really bad" or "you have autism just a little bit (asperger's)"), but I think Autism (or autistic tendencies) exist in every person, but it's always along a scale. Some people have little if any autistic behavioral tendencies but I think the scale exists regardless.

Same thing with sexuality. This is not a groundbreaking discovery but I think especially over the last 10-15 years everyone has become more comfortable (at least everyone who is say under 35-ish years of age) with the idea that sexuality is not some nice clean-cut "you are this or that" kind of thing, instead it's a sliding scale that just determines how many of your sex-neurons are turned on by this person or that person, how excited you get from this person's pheromones versus that person's.

Even something as complex and scary as cancer, cancerous cells are being created all the time in your body; it's only when your body fails to recognize these cells and exterminate them does it progress into "you have cancer". I just think it's interesting to look at things as this collection of sliding scales, every time we discover a new way to classify some portion of ourselves we aren't discovering a new box that you are in or not, instead it's just a new scale that you have some percentage of activated. Obviously not everything fits this paradigm but a lot of things do, especially things that tend to divide people.
yes coulombs are "germaine", did you learn that word at talk like a dick school?

True.
*Steps away from his imaginary cafe table to rejoin the crowd*  Levels of respect may be the same. To return to the former topic for a moment, Vell may have well experienced more pressure from actions or words that barely scratched us. People have different tolerances; it would be a good idea to keep that in mind. (FYI if you pay attention she still lurks, but that may or may not be significant.) *retreats a bit, sips tea*
I just brought in some flowers as its supposed to be freezing tonight. They look lovely together in the vase but I may split them up as I think the Japonica's smell may drown out that of the other flowers. Nah, they're fine.

On the topic of autism again (is anybody paying attention??):
Someone created a poll a while back here that quantized one's sexuality on a certain scale and it was created by this guy who had the same feelings on the matter; I think this was it, at least: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinsey_scale
Interesting stuff.

GR that is an awesome way of thinking and post. I pondered stuff like that myself to some extent but you really shed some light on it for me.

I think it would be cool if they taught kids in school to be more grey and less black and white about things. It took me a very long time for the penny to drop and to start looking at things that way.

I'm fiddling with Arduinos almost all day and all night at the moment. I have a few projects on the go, one is to make a laser that fires but only when it's in the right place (this is to negate the effects of nearby periodic vibrations). Another is the flight computer for a weather balloon with outboard fans. Because the UK is a smaller place than say, the USA, we have to look for a way to control the ascent and descent of our balloon in order to take near-outer-atmosphere imagery.

At the moment we're worried we'll take out a plane or something so we're doing a lot of research into that. Apparently weather balloons have right of way and are easily detectable on radar.

A third project I'm working on is a motor controller with an ultrasonic rangefinder. It could have... interesting... uses.

that sounds like funstuff. all I've really done with the arduino is make funny patterns/marquee with LED arrays. I don't really have time for all my hobbies/activities cuz of school and arduino has sorta been put on the backburner for a while. by the time i get back into it there will be another cooler little microcontroller for hobbyists to fuck with.
