al-jazeera english is run by a lot of former bbc talent and is like any other news source except good. it's not just middle east stuff but all kinds of world affairs. i mean it has its flaws, but it's a great news source that has minimal influence by western corporations or interests.
Yeah, and it doesn't have CAT STUCK IN TREE headlines like CNN does. Ever seen CNN do something with social media? It's so hilariously wrong it's basically a parody of itself. Meanwhile Al Jazeera has a program involving social media (The Stream) that actually does it right. It's a fun channel to watch, they often have good coverage and ask interesting people to talk. Although yeah, they're not perfect of course. One time they had an ultra right-winger on to talk about how taxes ruined the US. Although right afterwards they had someone else on to basically debunk everything that guy said.
also lmao aljazeera english the tv channel is banned in the us. that's how you know it's a good news source imo. i think its available in canada but you have to special order it on digital cable/satellite and fuck that.
It's not banned, it's just that Bush and co. have been branding it as "the media arm of Al-Qaeda" (pretty much literally in those words, and I think that's probably what Jon Stewart was referring to to play devil's advocate) so almost no cable companies carry it. Only a few do. It doesn't matter, you can watch the actual channel online without having to pay.
edit: I don't read the articles that often though so I don't know how good they are. But I do know a couple of really clever activists regularly publish there.
