it wasn't really a question, here's some stuff i made this week:

that's a self-portrait of me

uhhh....that's some fan art

this was a character design challenge based off of the words "glamorous fierce destroyer genie"

i wanted to draw a vespa but ended up drawing a lady too

i'm basically doing one illustration a day, i started this week. i think i might take weekends off to recharge/practice sketching.

It's like Gorillaz had sex with John K.'s portfolio. I love it, dude.

idk i think it's like vaguely gorillaz but i like the whole genie from aladdin vibe of it/like so far the kinda 50's nostalgia style in it. buena vista smiles at the young prodigy... but do what you want ofc!

but please go to valve and redesign all the characters/style in Dota 2. i beg of you.

thanks for the comments guys. i didn't realize how much it looked like gorillaz, but i may be subtly influenced by them because i've been watching that new disneyXD show called motorcity.

i'm really influenced by artists like shane glines (http://cartoonretro.deviantart.com/) and sean galloway (http://cheeks-74.deviantart.com/). i'm still trying to find my own specific style i guess.

oh and i'm also stupidly obsessed with vespas, idk why. i think that's like a character designer thing, every character designer has drawn someone on a vespa.

here's something i just finished. it's...uh...another fan art. and...more vespas

You don't find it. It finds you.

Also real nice work.

i'm trying a more stylized approach this time, keeping the lines (mostly) black. this one is a little more stylized than usual, especially with the proportions

This stuff is very cool. Do you do special requests or commissions or anything?

Looks nice, it's distinctive enough to be memorable and all the stuff you've posted here is pretty consistent with each other. I don't know if you've found your own style, but it looks like a style anyway, pretty well developed. It is familiar, but that doesn't necessarily matter that much. You like two-wheeled vehicles, eh?

this one is animated. concept art for senior project

@afura: i'd love to do some paid commission work one day. one day. right now idk if i'm up to doing any special requests unless it's something really fun. i might give it a shot. but if someone was like "hey i'll give you 60$ to do a short looping animation" then hell yeah i could pump one out

@jamie: thanks. i do like vespas. i'm going to stop with the two wheelers and stuff

edit: this piece in particular inspired by anthony holden
edit 2: and samurai jack of course

Yeah was just asking cause I'd love someone to draw a picture of me doing something journalistic for my website one day. Like talking on a cell phone, using a laptop, writing on a notepad, listening to headphones all at once or something ha. But I'm traveling so I'm poor as hell at the moment haha, but one day.

actually, i made that entirely in photoshop. animation and stuff. i then imported certain image sequences into after effects, re-exported it, and did final touch-ups in photoshop again. finally, i exported it into a gif for the web. i might post the process if anyone is interested (but that takes a long time and i'm sort of lazy about it)

i made another "random character" from the random character generator at itscharacterdriven.blogspot.com

this time, my words were:
hairy
scary
queen (empress)
who may or may not be a viking

edit: also an explosion:

Good work! A lot of repeating though on the char gen thing. Probably a lot more messy but I usually use the random English word thing that Wiktionary has for ideas of pretty much any sort. I say its a bit messy is because you'll occasionally get words that really can't be applied to the thing you are thinking about.

Like for instance I just used it 3 times and got:
-SONET (abbreviation: Synchronous Optical Networking)
-serpinopathy (Any of a type of disorders characterized by abnormal accumulation of serpins)
-mountebank (One who sells dubious medicines)

Kind of hard to apply to a lot of things but you can always rely on it to access a extremely wide array of ideas and words.

Here it is: http://toolserver.org/~hippietrail/randompage.fcgi?langname=English

I tried it three times and the first two times I got plurals of fairly innocuous words.

The third time all I got was the idea that if I was ever going to make one of those hell platformer games where you die super easily, I would definitely name the main character "Terry".

Cool stuff, you've got some talent. Your work begs to be animated, and the two that you've posted (especially the "explosion") are very fluid. I'd love to see you animate a simple loop of two characters fighting, throwing kicks and punches and stuff.

What are your career goals? I could see you definitely getting into an animation studio or possibly working for an indie game developer. There is a resurgence of hand-drawn 2D art in games lately (e.g. Bastion, Cave Story, that digging game that I forget the name of, as well as slightly older stuff like Castle Crashers and Muramasa: The Demon Blade) and I think it will soon be a big market.

well, i'm currently studying animation in art school (with some decent scholarships so i'm not anywhere near like 100k in debt) and i hope to land an internship at a studio next summer--i'm aiming for dreamworks, because i actually really admire the direction their films have been going in. but i'm okay with tv studios, smaller studios, etc. dreamworks did recently announce a full FEATURE that would be half-hand-drawn animation, which is pretty amazing. my chances of getting an internship at a huge feature studio like dreamworks, however, are rather slim considering the competition and talent i'm up against--so i'm not under any delusion that i can just get it. last summer i had an internship at a commercial animation studio where i realized just how little i knew about anything, and it really opened my eyes--that's really when i decided to get more serious about my work.

i think i find the most personal enjoyment in doing special effects animation (ie explosions, water, environmental stuff, smoke, etc.). i'd love to do that for a bit. some of my favorite effects animators are michel gagne and ryan woodward, and they've gone on to do really great independent projects outside of studios. i think that's something i'd aspire toward, possibly 10 years from now. maybe more. i try to be realistic about it.

edit: the character stuff--
yeah, the generator i use is at itscharacterdriven.blogspot.com, which is run by brett bean, a character designer whom i really respect/admire. though there is a lot of repetition, it was written not to generate a chaotic character but simply one that made you think before you designed. so instead of random words, it's randomly choosing from a sea of traits that can apply to any type of character. regardless, if i only work from this, i do think my work will begin to get a little stale; there's only so many random characters you can make before you want something a little more real.
