Wow, apparently it SHOULD only be LEGO bricks as the word is an adjective according to LEGO. Also it's incorrect to not capitalise the whole word either, and you need to put the (R) symbol next to it.

I don't actually know how to make the r symbol so I will just call them LEGO bricks.

Also LEGO is an adjective wtf. So they're LEGO bricks, never ever 'bricks of LEGO' lol

Okay as GW's resident lego enthusiast let me lay down the law here, re: what LEGO themselves have said on this matter:

"Legos" is wrong.  But guess what--so is "lego".  You are NEVER supposed to use the name in a generic sense like that, you are ONLY supposed to say LEGO building bricks or LEGO sets or LEGO minifigs or what have you.  This is the only part that I'm not 100% sure about, but I seem to remember that it's because if "lego" became a generic term over time for building brick, a company like mega bloks could sell "mega bloks brand legos".

What this ultimately means is that both of you are wrong, and I really cannot stand people being smug about lego vs legos because of this.  It's a regional or cultural or PERSONAL idk whatever thing and LEGO BRAND BUILDING BLOCK is too stiff so as far as I'm concerned in general use (unless you also say BAND AID BRAND ADHESIVE BANDAGES) both are equally correct and fuck off with correcting people about it because the only really wrong answer here is to insist you're right one way or another.

Also: BOTH of us? There were like three people on the pro-legos side!
Hey hey hey

Sorry I basically went to post that as soon as I saw the argument cropping up but basically both SIDES are wrong so say whatever feels right to you and don't correct other people when you yourself aren't correct.

In a topic about the Olympics we're discussing nationalism and global oppression.

Then in another topic we're arguing about what you call LEGOs.

Not even being facetious this is what GW/SW is all about, right here.
yes coulombs are "germaine", did you learn that word at talk like a dick school?

Dang, I was just making a joke. I love LEGO(s) and believe they would be an amazing treat for Halloween. Maybe mix in some smaller candies in there though just to keep the kids happy. There's nothing wrong with a tootsie roll every now and then.

that doesn't really make sense http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genericized_trademark and geez the 'argument' was in good humor

when I was a kid I hated megablocks because they only came in the most depressing colors possible.  cranberry, ochre, mauve, navy, all of them dull and dark and greyish

i hated the 12 megablocks in my giant tub of LEGO BRAND BUILDING BRICKS because i would occasionally have to use them for a project and they'd mock me with their off-colorness

Like I said the trademark thing is the only part I wasn't 100% sure about, but either way what I said about LEGO's stance on their terminology was dead on so their rationale doesn't really matter

I don't care if it was in good humor or not and I don't think Faust or Belross were OFFENDED at what I said so idk why you seem so frustrated about it.  I just see people bicker about this a lot (probably because I read a lot of stuff about lego, so you might not see this argument as much as I do) and it's a pet peeve of mine along the lines of constantly stopping people midsentence to correct their grammar.

I was pretty offended.

I saw a pile of bricks when I went to the shop and smashed them to pieces because they reminded of LEGO bricks and what went down here.

people on lego forums would be serious about this sort of thing, but the "smugness"  here was a joke. like dr pepper vs root beer
