Yeah, as long as the "artists pages" element is still on the development queue, I'm not complaining.

And the release in parts is a good idea, given that each part is 100% complete before being added.

Wait what I'd like to contribute to a GW collection of RPG midis or whatever. If someone wants to use my compositions in games I'm fine with that. So yeah, that'd rock pretty cool.

BTW what happened to RTP's death?

If there is interest in it I'll definitely create a directory but it'll be a bit different then HERE IS A LIST OF MIDIS AND THE AUTHORS NAME IS HIDDEN IN A SMALL CORNER HERE kind of deal like it has been in the past

I think it must've gradually died. Oh the irony...  :brow:

RTP's Death This is the last that can be found of it. It's a shame because before Chris restarted it, it was for all intents and purposes almost finished. I think there was only about 10 MIDIs left to do. Is it worth trying to start it up again? I don't know but it was a cool idea.

Well if you are worried about people not crediting the artists that's gonna be a pain. People AREN'T going to credit the artists even if you put it up there. People (and by people I mean us, the artists) would just have to settle with that fact and do it for the purpose of making good music and being helpful.

imo

Then again I don't know.

I don't see how it can't be done right and done well just doing piece by piece. That's how coding is going anyways. It's not like one day I'm working on games and then I decide to work on articles. I get games done, then I move to articles, so instead of letting my code sit and rot I'm releasing it to the public quicker.

Well, I am only speaking from experience but going from a programming stage to an intermediate release stage does take time for they are not the same thing. You end up cutting off features and leaving dead end links so you could shift development on another aspect of the site. It complicates further when you decide you need to change some workings to accomidate new intermediate steps, but you already have parts of what needs to be changed published. Like, I don't see any good grounds to justify releasing the unfinished product at all besides.. showing off a new layout or whatever. Just do it man, its a lot of busy work essentially but not that complicated. The public doesnt need it quicker if it isnt going to work as advortised. Just dont let it turn into vaporware.

There is something called a Planning/Analysis stage in Project creation. You know, plan it all out, figure out what goes where, diagrams and all that jazz! Then you begin coding

Ya, who would have thought college actually taught me something useful?

And I don't see how it wouldn't be working as advertised when "as advertised" is "Hey, this works great. But the rest of the site is still coming along, and if you are goign to whine about it then sorry -- Public opinion wanted it this way"

Bart, is there any way you could make a list of exactly what sort of staffers you need, and what you need them to do? I'm interested in a position (who isn't though) but I'm not sure what would be needed the most, and what I'd be most useful for.

I'd love to be a mod, but the only forums I'd be interested in modding don't need any more.

I haven't put much thought into it but a music section with basically a Composer "Profile" where they could add their own songs, post random tidbits, have their stuff reviewed, etc. Almost like a forum thread I suppose, but all of it would be centralized into one. Additionally, i was thinking since we want to expand our areas a bit. We could have people reviewing new "game music". Tons of games now a days have original sound tracks released and I think it would be cool if those got a bit more exposure. I became a huge fan of the Katamari Damacy OST and I didn't even know it existed!
I think a music section would be a very cool addition to the new GW if worked out. I also love the idea of people reviewing game music. I would be totally up for doing that!

I still very much like the idea of expanding GW into other areas such as Web Design/Development tutorials/resources/articles and a deviant art sort section (for premium/moderators). I hope you are still planning to go ahead with such things because that would be cool!

Did you ever actually finish the new staff panel?  I remember you were working on it shortly before you stepped down, but I don't recall you ever finishing it.

Does it matter? (And, no)

I don't know if this was discussed anywhere else, but it's the first time i've heard it and I like it a lot! GW is supposed to be a site for "independent game developers," however it seems like 99% of it is actually "independent RM2K developers". Now this is obviously because 99% of the people are using RM2k (and all its brethren), but I think it would be awesome if we had a section devoted to programming/web design. Obviously this section wouldn't be ONLY about games, but IMO it might encourage other people to move away from these "makers" and try out real programming.

Also I have yet to find a good community (although I've never really looked...) for developing Windows apps (ie in C++) and using OpenGL/DirectX, etc.

Anyways if you do make this "section", I would love to help out with that.

Yah, I think it'd make the site release a lot smoother. If I remember correctly, one of the past versions of GW had a few problems when it was released. And in the long run, it'd allow for the site to be a lot better since you'll be tweeking the currently release section of the site until it's perfect!
