I am trying to submit on time. I am faced with the question of when does a game become a game? I seem to have created a perfect atmosphere for my game but I don't feel compelled to make it a "game" game. The audience expects a "game" though?

we definitely don't expect a "game."

The problem I have with my very incomplete 'game' is namely one of animation and art. I'm bad at both. I'm actually really bad at animation.

EDIT: You guys make pretty games.

What about board games, card games, and pen and paper games? For some reason its harder to hate those and I'm not even as strongly into them.

I'm told murderin is the cornerstone of Videogame, so make murds possible and blammo, pure vidcon action

by the way folx, if it isn't clear, you can submit things through itch.io after the counter strikes zero, so don't worry on that account if you're running late

To be fair, I personally really like games that ARE ALL ABOUT MURDS

haha I ain't murd shaming, though I will say there's certainly nothing wrong with having a game that's basically an explorable 3d art setpiece which involves little actual interaction.

Not going to submit what I have so far. With the realization that I wouldn't be able to get what I have so far to anything submitable state beyond a basic sprite render. Mostly due to slow ineffective debugging, and poor time management in general. (I could very easily blame outside factors loosely related to the timing of the jam, but I entered planning to get things done despite all that, and failed)

I'm still going to work on it over the next couple of days. I'll post a really late entry, as long as something can come together in that time that even gives the tiniest hint at the basic mechanic of the type of game I intended to make. (so busy trying to get that part working that I haven't even started any sort of actual level design) I am at least learning important things about myself as a game designer that are less than optimally conducive to week long game-jams.

I don't want PuppetMaster's efforts to be obscured in all this though. I am totally cool with a full soundtrack being posted, but I want to leave it entirely to his discretion as to when or whether to post it. I still plan to utilize those jams to make this game to completion over an undefined period of post-jam time, and far as my growing backlog of failed jams go, this one is at the top of my TODO list. (even if it didn't feel like it to me while working over the past week)

so what I'm seeing is that a lot of people are struggling against the deadline, and a lot of calls for an official extension (haha, me official?)

I think Christmas ended up being a busier time for most people than we originally expected when we set this as the time for the jam, anyways

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: the new deadline is New Years Day 2014, UTC.

even the countdown clock will reflect this

see y'all on the other side, fuckers :fogetrockin:

Okay I think i just handed in my game, haven't tried to dl it yet but I'm assuming it works.  It is called Kill Dad.  I'm not all that proud of the title, but the content was super fun to make.

Out for the rest of the night, see all you jammers tomorrow for the commencement of the winter play off.

I made progress yesterday, but each bit of art takes about 20 min to half an hour, and each audio clip takes about 10 to 15 minutes, and 41 or 42 of each adds up to a lot. Then I have to organize them all, arrange them in gm8 with their attendant scripts and objects in a way that makes aesthetic sense. What I end up submitting will probably be more like a demo than my (I hope) eventual finished product.

Gunfighters' ping pong reminds me of a similar volley-till-death game I played this year. The art is great.

I hope the extra couple of days give EvilDemonCreature enough time, otherwise I'll post the songs anyway at cutoff. I might even fix some up or make another with the spare time, what the hell.

oh ok good I thought I was too late. Maybe I'll feel inspiration and motivation to finish the game that I got some work in for.
