If Sonic is included, and I'm hoping he is, he's going to be need to be released soon, before the commercials/final trailers are released. I doubt such a climactic character would be included as a secret character when the games marketability will practically skyrocket if he is announced. I have no idea what events are coming up, but if theres an E3 or something of the sort between now and Dec 3rd, that'll either make or break him.
I think the Tokyo Game Show official starts Thursday.
That'd be a pretty good place to unveil something big I'd say.

On a side note, does anyone else thing the character damage thing is a bit too bulky?

As long as it's not like Melee where sometimes you couldn't see your character because the percentages were covering up your person  :fogetshh:

I'm not sure about Pokemon Battle Revolution, though as far as first party games go, Mario Strikers: Charged isn't confined to FCs either.  I'd cite EA's games but they're running on EA Nation, not Nintendo WFC.
PBR doesn't require friend codes for random battles, either. And what's more, you can trade Friend Codes after a random match if you want, which is a feature that ought to be included in all Nintendo WFC things. They did cripple communication in random battles, though, so your opponent didn't see your Pokemon's nicknames(just the species name) or the custom messages you set up.

Lol.  Yeah, I don't have a DS and am not accustomed to what appears to be Nintendo's strict babysitting online.  Sakurai seems to have proactively thought of any possible way strangers could communicate with each other and abolished it.  No naming your character, no writing your taunts.  I guess players will have to resort to some kind of Smash sign-language hybride to communicate.  I'll start - how about jump, mid-air special, duck, duck, shield means "fuck you".  Let it be known.

Awesome. Now I can play with my cousin, my friends, and my brother in college even when they're far away. Sweet. I'm mixed on the no-rankings thing, but whatever. If I have to crush a few noobs to get a good battle, it's worth it.

Also, I REALLY agree with Sarhan. These things are huge, and I don't like them at all. Especially the pictures of the characters... I mean, the symbol and damage is enough! We don't need the picture and the name as well.

I think the bigger problem would be that you might name your Pokemon "Shitcock" and a child's parents would be able to sue Nintendo because of it.

Doesn't matter that they'd lose, there'd still be legal fees.

Online play is more or less pointless with all of these restrictions. At least random online play, which, more or less, is just you playing against randomly leveled computer opponents. Personally, I'd rather play against a team of 3 level 9s vs me than play against some random opponent(s) that'll result in nothing of merit.

My guess is that somewhere there will be a repositiory of friend codes belonging to anybody worth their grain in salt in smash bros that you can find. One of biggest draws of the online play was to finally put an end to all the shit talking everybody on the internet did. Which is probably why this repository will eventually exist.

That's my two cents.

Pretty easy to just not allow swear words in names. Or even better, simply disallow them online. "Sorry, you named that Pokemon something stupid and now it cant be used, ha ha!". I'd take that over ridiculous safety measures any day.

Like I say, other companies seem to handle it pretty well so I don't get why Nintendo have this big aura of anti-online about them. Hopefully it's finally ending.

Doesn't matter, wouldn't be any for Nintendo. It wouldn't hold up in court at all and probably wouldn't get anywhere. It says on the front of every online playable game box "Game experiance may change online".

Not all cases end with the judge awarding attorney fees to the winner of a case, even when it's cut-and-dry.

And it's not just legal issues. I don't know if you saw this, but a few months back Dateline (or one of those other TV news magazines) did some report on how people could use the DS's PictoChat to lure children into pedophiles' grasps. Nintendo may be being paranoid, but their family-friendly image is very important to them, and it's not unfounded paranoia. Even with nonsensical safety measures in place, the news media is going to find a way to do that sort of thing. And yes, I realize that it's mostly just ignorant people who pay any attention to television news, but Nintendo likes to get money from ignorant people as much as they do from anyone else.

Can't wait until Manhunt 2 is released I can take a broken bottle to the testicles of Nintendo's "family-friendly image".

To me, although jumping to rather 'out-there' conclusions... do all of these robots somewhat make you think that maybe they're of Eggman orientation?
As I said, a bit of a stretch, but if it be the case (which would likely suggest eggman be some sort of boss), then that would suggest that the blue wonder would be in it as well.

Yeah blue wonder! I hope you're right.

Enemies look pretty cool and somewhat different from the style of Melee. I do like that they put in a lot of thought into enemies since that means they put in more effort into adventure mode overall, which means it'll be more interesting that the previous ones have been.

Overall, it's a pretty cool update. It's no Sonic or anything, but it doesn't matter since that'll be tomorrow.

I can't really see why Nintendo is restrictive with online play either. I was thinking it was because of the "Halo/XBL Mentality," but I feel that it may further prove that Nintendo really sucks at online gameplay plans. Or the "family-friendly image in exchange for ample freedom in online play" theory for that matter.
