The texturing on Ryu's arm in that last screenshot is weird.

yes i like this tire tracks texturing that is supposed to be human skin. I guess it looks GR8 from further away.

i think the people on the background are like really dumb like hey two guys are punching the fuck out of each other 2 meters from where i stand but instead of paying any attention to this im just going to chillax.

I think most of you let your love for ST get in the way for your better judgement. This game looks really bad. It's not just the animations or design. The graphics are pretty terrible too when we get close-ups. Sure, they've done some nice changes (making it brighter, fixing the chicks face etc.) but overall it looks like something I'd expect from a PS2 game.

It simply looks bad in every way possible.

I think you're forgetting thar Street Fighter's style has never been very realistic or anything. I like the cartoony look.

I agree that static screenshots look pretty bad because all the hilarious character flaws are apparent, but the game looks like a frigging blast when you watch the videos. It all looks very fluid and enjoyable.

The animations are done to simulate how sprites would look. This is pretty hard to explain if you don't "get" the deeper mechanics of a 2d fighting game, but everything is obviously done in frames, and when you cancel a move in ST, you cancel out some of the later frames. With sprites, this looks smooth, and it's a nice fast deal. With models (normally) it looks very...well....BAD. The reason being that with a sprite, it's just a drawing. With a model, there's actually a "skeletal" system, and it looks pretty terrible because with a drawing it just changes to first few frames of another move, and with a model its not that easy, since they have to shift through the animations or else it looks really wonky. I hope that makes sense. .___.

The graphics are supposed to be really good and basically everyone who has played the game has said that all screenshots and even video so far don't really do the game justice, and that it looks amazing in-game.

It's doing an amazing job of being a Street Fighter game right now, and not Soul LETS LOOK SUPER COOL AND BE ALL BRIGHT AS FUCK BLOOM x 24892190381239812038012 Calibur, which is ace in my book. I don't care if it looks "not-as-nex-gen" as long as it looks Street Fighter. I play fighters for the fighting, not for how good it looks! But this still looks good.

They're going for style over realism and everyone who's played it so far thinks it looks fuckin great. Also, Hancock Lamb described a problem with why the animations would look wonky in 3D - basically in a fighter with quick poke moves like this the animations need to shift back and forth really fast, and on top of this 99% of all games today apply a smoothening algorithm to 3D models to make them not suddenly 'pop' into a completely different position, but move to it smoothly over about 1/10th of a second. Works good for most games but in fighters it tends to make the game feel "floaty" and like you have less control over it. Thing is, this game actually isn't doing this, which is pretty amasing because you need quite a deep understanding and a lot of balls to not smooth the animations out like that, and taking it away definitely was the right thing to do! The most clear example of this is in that Vega vs Honda vid that Hancock Lamb posted, where near the middle Honda is K.O'd by Vega's leap swipe attack thing - this puts the game in slomotion and you can see, when he lands, that there's no landing frame, he's just suddenly standing on the ground. In slo-mo it looks a bit strange in extreme cases like that but 99% of the time it makes the game look so much better.

Geez, three well written replies concerning my post.
I understand why they do what they do, it still looks pretty bad though. I think Smash Bros Brawl looks shit too but it's hilarious. So yeah, I'm not bashing the actual gameplay but the look of it is just something I wanna puke over.

Anything looks badly textured when its close up man. Go into Crysis and run up to anything close up and it looks god awful even on high graphics. It still has a ways to go before its finished, so I'm sure itll improve a bit but it won't look so bad in-game imo. They've been improving it a lot!

Wow, I was mostly interested in this game because of El Fuerte, but now Dan is back?
Oh boy!

I don't really know what good graphics look like in general, but for this game I think they have improved on it very well overtime. I think it looks fine.
