In fact, they don't seem to have aged at all despite being like 50 or 60 or whatever, and the animations are also pretty crummy. What a letdown.

I assumed the Street Fighter series acted on a rolling timeline somewhat.

Also the graphics suck.

Man it looks like Street Fighter EX, and the characters also don't seem to have any new design elements. In fact, they don't seem to have aged at all despite being like 50 or 60 or whatever, and the animations are also pretty crummy. What a letdown.

a lot of people are saying this and i don't see why

its like 10% done officially now, and it looks a lot better then SF EX (Akiman's visual style, better backgrounds, etc etc, with a slightly different artistic style overall) (though this isnt hard to look better than SFEX), the animations do a good job of mimicking the 2D ones, imo, etc.

I think its decent, maybe not what I expected (I am slightly disappointed), but in the end I'm still gonna play it.

The Street Fighter / Final Fight / Saturday Night Slammasters time line is an actual timeline with characters aging etc...

This game takes place between Street Fighter 2 and Street Fighter 3, and I believe they mean Double Impact (NG doesn't count canonically) for that specifically, (maybe Third Strike....probably not), so sometime between 93 and 98 time line wise.

That's super gay dude. They've already crammed the Alpha series inbetween a bunch of existing Street Fighter titles and now they are doing it again.

I agree, but it actually makes sense in some regard.

If its before 2G but after ST they can fit in ST + 2G/3S characters easily.

I think doing it after 3S would be rather difficult, because while you can fit in ST/3S characters, the cast is starting to get really old, there really isn't some great evil guy left, Ryu has greatly surpassed every fucking one by being trained by Oro, etcetera

I would really like it to be after 3S just to see Oro trained Ryu, he would be so badass, and maybe have an epic final fight (see what I did there) between Oro-trained Ryu and Akuma but nooooo

Maybe this way they can kind of add to Urien & Gill's backstory or something. Or maybe they'll revive M. Bison in some very cliche self contrived fighting game manner. Like a clone. Or time travel. Or pancakes.

i dont even fucking care I just want to play a Street Fighter with an increment in its number :(

Dude they are basically using an excuse to reuse bland and worn-out characters, leaving no room for development since we already know the progression between Street Fighter 2 and 3 (which is next to none). I expected them to, you know, actually design something original. How many new characters and aspects can you expect to see between those two games.

Looks promising but the character designs look cartoony.

When I think Street Fighter I think realism! Seriously man the graphics have been cartoony since Street Fighter Alpha.

Also I like the new look, the animation in particular looks very smooth.

How many they want. The SF story is incredibly loose so you can do pretty much whatever the hell you want with it. It's a good thing they put it between SF2 and SF3 so we don't get grey-hair Ryu and they can add basically any character they want to, old or new. I'm just hoping Makoto makes it!!!!

Ono has already said (says it in that vid too irc) that they are working on new guys

its a fighting game, so they can just do some bs fighting game reason for new guys or something

Please let Dan be in this.

How great would it be to play a SF game with both Dan AND Sean in it? And since Sean is really really weak even after being trained by Ken he'd be an even match for Dan lol...

Sean technically isn't that weak, they just nerfed him lots in 3S.
He would be fairly weak if he was in this since he might not of been trained lots yet.

And Dan MUST be in this.

I thought story-wise he was supposed to be pretty weak as well.

Like isn't his ending just "LOL IT WAS ALL A DREAM?"

i meant gameplay wise

he's been omega fucking strong in 2 of the 3 games

edit: on that note 3S has probably the worst thing ever when it comes to how strong characters are in-game compared to the canon. Oro is supposed to be basically THE ultimate fighter able to destroy anybody, he fucking tied with Akuma in a 1-on-1 fight with just his one arm (which he only uses 1 because if he sued 2 he'd fucking kill everybody), but in-game he isn't even that good.

also i bet 5 usd that one of the new characters is Dictator except different name/look if they cant find a way to revive him.

i want to see claw in this too

then we can have nightmare talk about how much he wants claw

I'm still not entirely sold on this project, but dear God do I want to be. Admittedly, it's far too early to truly judge this game so I can't be too disappointed but... I'll just say that it'd better play like a dream. It's already far removed from what I imagined (and hoped for) from an visual perspective, but that doesn't make the game. After all, for all its beauty, SFIII has endured the past decade because of the complexity of its gameplay.

Those characters are comically bulky, however.

There is no longer room for absolute originality in the field of [art], especially given that our generation was brought up on mass-produced [art]. All stories and techniques inevitably bring with them a sense of déjà vu. The only avenue of expression left open to us is to produce a collage-like effect based on a sampling of existing works.

Why couldn't they just add all the characters that have ever been in the street fighter series.
