yeah mayor boytouch watchout for animes :(

I don't like either of these games they make me so angry that I go "errrrrrrrgggggh are you weady" and bodyslam into a table.
dude

alright i will give you xenosaga because it is boring and pretentious and really fucking self-indulgent without being funny at all (although i still think the battle system is pretty okay and even sort of fun if you get into it, and the story is passable compared to shit like so3, even if it is marred by ZOHARS etc), but xenogears is a legitimately hysterical game!  how can you not like it, at least as the biggest joke ever, if not a serious attempt at a game?  it is kind of like star wars episode 3.  looking into the camera with those evil eyes//BREAKING THE FOURTH WALL and all that hilariously bad shit.  at first you watch it and go "wow this is terrible" but then after many times watching it it becomes more like "wait this is actually amazing."

I <3 Xenosaga so much. I have a poster of Shion2 on my wall.

I like how XS3 managed to tie up all the characters reasonably well. It's also one of the three games ever to make me tear up.

lol actually XS3 left so many questions unanswered..and we still know nothing of Ziggy...

@bazookatootude did u do acid while playing Xenogears for the second time? ur post is so....trippy...

\heh is there any other way...

also konix i can't believe you've heard nothing but bad things!  like xenogears' story is pretty alright if a little on the totally crazy///fucking wacked (soylent green also chuchu crucified), and it is actually sort of fun to play since the combat system is at least a little interesting and new, and all that jazz.  like as far as being a functional game goes, it does pretty alright.  there are senseless religious references, and the story itself is actually a just composite of pretty much every well known science fiction movie in the past fifty years, but that is what makes it great.  i wouldn't suggest playing xenosaga since it is megagay most of the time but xenogears does the same shit except makes it seem like it is some kind of big secret joke and not serious in the least, which i like!  like as the game progresses it just gets more and more absurd and difficult to believe.  the fact that it's also a functioning game with a decent battle system and solid gameplay (platformer elements kind of suck though :////), and a story that is honestly somewhat interesting at points is a bonus.  do you know what i mean?  like it is a DECENT GAME with okay story/battlesystem (not THEBEST but pretty good!) and then they went and added a bunch of totally off the wall and unnecessary shit, but it actually made the game better imo, whereas in xenosaga and most other games it just ruins them completely most of the time.  i attribute this mostly to the fact that with xenogears i am still pretty sure it's some big fucking joke on the part of the developers.

I never got into any of these games and likely never will as I've heard nothing but bad things. Doesn't the series draw very heavily from christian mythology for no apparent reason at all? And also not in a creative way (if that's even possible) but basically in a clueless Japanese way that completely butchers its source of inspiration. If I remember correctly I think read that xenosaga 3 had jesus as a character in it. Anime jesus is where I draw the line.
Nah, he's not a character. The show him for like a tenth of a second on the cross. Yeshua is a character, however, along with Mary Magdoline. They were pretty creative about it, actually. This is a very simplied, version of what happens. There's more to it and it explains why they're there, I just forget, really.

also... iguess............... i guess i won't like any anime in the usa then

i think what he is saying is that the game is better if you try to appreciate it like you would the stars wars christmas special or a b movie instead of v...video game magnum opus. i have been thinking of replaying it recently because i don't think i was playing it the right way. it's pretty unfair for me to dislike a game for being too ridiculous after making barkley, shut up and jam: gaiden.

Um..Yeshua is the Hebrew name for Jesus just to let you now... so you play as Jesus..just not the son of God... but rather the Aionic Jesus...in other words the game states that there was 2 Jesus... 0 _ 0

Yeah. And it's even funnier because the scene where they do show Jesus, chaos is there listening to him preach on I think the Mount of Olives. Not sure. But chaos is with Mary Magdalene too. It's not very clear what their relationship is, and it gets even more confusing when chaos is named as Yeshua. The relationship is very unclear.

Xenosaga was pretty amazing until they threw in that Mary Magdalene stuff. I mean, it's fine to use religious symbols and stuff (I do all the time) but they have to be coherent.

Xenogears though was godly. I don't care if the story did have some areas of incoherency. It blew my mind and still blows my mind and every time I go through it I discover something new.
300 Spartans DIED so I could post on this forum today.

Actually thats a very famous part of the bible called "Sermon at the Mount" that was the most important spech he gave because he did it infront of alot of people and he taught them the basic foundations for Christiaism(The beatitudes,Our Father etc etc),he also said that false phrophets would come in the future...and we see chaos staring into Jesus...hmm....

When I was 13 or so I thought Xenogears was the best thing that had ever happened to me, but after recently going back to try it again I realized that the writing is actually pretty bad.  It's a solid RPG and everything I guess and there are definitely some memorably epic scenarios somewhere in there.  However, I have to agree that it's just too ridiculous to take in if you have any experience whatsoever with literature outside of video games and any of the shit that it shamelessly and poorly rips off and reinterprets.

I can't say that I like Xenosaga I or II much either, but like Xenogears, in High School I was so completely fucking blown away by the first Xenosaga that it's actually sort of difficult to put it into words.  Going back to play it again two years ago, I skipped all of the cutscenes because they were just awful and I was pretty sad when I discovered that the game was shorter than the Halo 3 singleplayer campaign.  Xenosaga II was just sort of a bad game in general, but the trippy ending sequence with Junior and Albedo was really awesome.  It was a barely tolerable game and I managed to finish it because it was short and inoffensive enough and the giant robot battles were a lot of fun.

But man, Xenosaga III is one of my top 5 favorite games ever.  It's full of embarassing symbolism, but it has extremely tight gameplay and excellent design.  Xenosaga III also boasts some of the coolest camera work and best music I've heard in a videogame (I do not generally like videogame music at all).  The writing's actually pretty awesome too, if you ignore the symbolism, which is hard to do when Jesus is in your party.  I always recommend people play Xenosaga III and skip the first two, but nobody ever does and not many people can tolerate the first two enough to even get the third game, which is excellent.  As always, the giant robot battles are the highlight of the game, and holy shit are some of them epic.  The giant robot boss scenes are some of my favorite bosses in videogames ever.

Xenogears is probably my favorite RPG after FF6. It has a great storyline and the gameplay is pretty awesome. The second CD is a bit meh but it's still enjoyable if you're into the story

Xenogears rocked, it probably has the best story I've ever seen in a videogame.
I didn't really like Xenosaga though, the story/characters weren't very interesting,
and the most of the cutscenes were boring.
