I bought a 60gb ps3 today for $250 (which is why I bought it (deals like that can't be passed up!!))

I don't know a lot about it, but I want to know. This is a pretty poor topic, I realise, but hopefully there'll be a lot of information circulating through the posts, like the PSP topic.

So please, tell me about the games, downloads... everything I may want or need to know.

Congrats on getting a 60 gig. They have the best backwards compatibility.

Anyway, as of now, the exclusive games that are worth checking out are:
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Heavenly Sword
Resistance Fall of Man
Folklore
Warhawk
Ratchet and Clank

Ninja Gaiden and Heavenly Sword were both pretty fun, but after I beat them, I never touched them again. I think it's probably more that they're just not my type of game (action adventure or whatever), but yeah, I found very little replay value in them (even with all the ninja gaiden addons put on the store).

Resistance and Warhawk are both must haves, in my opinion.  They're both great for online play (in fact, Warhawk is only online play). But on IRC you said that's not your type of game, so I dunno. Warhawk is currently my favorite PS3 game though, and it'd be cool to play with you.

I haven't played Ratchet and Clank yet, but it's gotten pretty much universal praise. I played the demo for Folklore, and I didn't find it that fun, so I didn't get it, but a lot of people have been saying it's good, so you might be interested in that.

There are a bunch of non-exclusives that are worth getting, but you probably already know most of them (Guitar Hero III, Skate, Oblivion, CoD4, Assassin's Creed).

If you're into more traditional japanese games, like myself, you can look forward to Steambot Chronicles 2, Valkyrie of the Battlefield, Final Fantasy XIII, Nobi Nobi Boy, White Knight Story and Disgaea 3. They're not going to be out for a while though. Oh, and definitely keep an eye on Little Big Planet, since it looks fantastic.

If you're planning on buying anything from the PSN store, I'd recommend Everyday Shooter, Gripshift, and Calling all Cars (although CaC is really only good as a party game).

My PS3 just died over the weekend.

I've only had it for 4 months!

From reading online it's apparently a hard-drive issue that happens in 1% to 3% of the consoles.  It makes the flashes and beeps like it's overheated but it's not.

I hardly even played it! I am sad

Back to Sony it goes for repair.

Yes its free, updates give you new features / security and shit, and no, none of the updates will brick your system.

I've heard a rumor that when playing a Blu-ray movie on the PS3, the machine is really loud and distracting (humming and whirring, I'm assuming).  Can anyone confirm this?

Impeal is pretty much right on the money. Most of the exclusives are great (Resistance and Warhawk especially if you enjoy the fast-action shooter scene), and there's a lot of other good titles coming for the Christmas season.

Supposedly you can mess around with it like a PSP, but it costs a lot more than a PSP so I'd prefer not to brick it.

Also I downloaded Folklore and Ratchet demos. Ratchet gave me a headache but folklore seems kind of neat. Has anyone played the actual game? Does it have voices? Because the demo didn't and that kind of bothered me.

An interesting trick I've learned is that the PSN doesn't have the best copy protection; if you log in with an account that has bought stuff, you can download all the things they have paid for.

It's about 1320913091283 times quieter than my XBox360.

When Kyrsten and I moved recently, I had been storing the PS3 in the closet until Netflix sent us a Blu-Ray movie.  I hooked up again for that.

So yeah . . . I don't know, man.  The PS3 is completely fucking worthless in my opinion and I really wish I hadn't bought one.

Folklore has voices during certain cutscenes, but it plays like an oldschool game, meaning lots of reading.

The PS3 itself is pretty neat...problem is, it has fuckall for decent games. I could count them on my hands.

Solution? You can also play PS1 and 2 games, both of which were arguably the best libraries of their generations. There are occasional compatibility issues, but they've gradually been solved with firmware updates.

The only reason I'm getting a PS3 is because I want to move into the next-gen while still being able to play my old PS1-PS2 games seeing as my PS2 has finally gone caput after many years of faithful service. And some of the current and upcoming games actually look pretty good, there's just so few of them.

So yeah . . . I don't know, man.  The PS3 is completely fucking worthless in my opinion and I really wish I hadn't bought one.

I feel your pain ​. But I'm looking forward to playing Call of Duty 4, and Assassins Creed, but other then that, the Playstation 3's pretty bullshit. Wish I still had a 360 ​.

Also if you like card games or just like strategy games GET EYE OF JUDGMENT! Find a copy of it somewhere. It is AWESOME!

I bought Eye of Judgement 'cause it looks sweet and comes with the PS Eye. Which I can make youtube videos with.
However! I'm mighty pissed at Playstation Network... if you set up multiple accounts, you can access different countries' PSN. I'm logged in with North America, UK, and Japan. Trouble is my credit card is Canadian! I can't download the 3 Playstation Eye games, currently UK exclusive! Just fucking gay, Sony you sonofabitch.

BTW- My ID is 'Dudesoft' on PS3, so add me. I've got everyone else We'll play warhawk or something.
