I had a horrible, horrible theory:
What if ROB is just a character for Japan. If you think about it, he's better known there. So, why wouldn't they replace him with a better known character for the other countries?
It might make sense...

It might make sense...

Because the versions of the games have to be the same so they can play against each other online.

Why would ROB be more popular in Japan.

there was only 2 supported games for him in both countries...also its a fighting game...so no.

no, i don't know how you could think that unless you are really young, its a pretty widely known fact that R.O.B. (Famicon Robot in japan) helped get the NES into stores in America in '85.

I know a used/retro game store that has a R.O.B. holding their business cards. It's pretty awesome.

I'm from the Sega Genesis era. I never knew about any 'ROB' until recently. (Star Fox 2 boss.)

God... I've yet to watch all the vids, (thanks a ton guys!) but I really am disappointed. Falco was totally unnecessary as a clone, and now there's WOLF? And Ganondorf better not be a clone of Falcon. Also, Ness! ARGH. I understand putting everyone's favorite character in, but at least give them a good moveset or something! I don't care about Lucario, because he replaced Mewtwo, so that's fine. But... Damn. This game is still awesome and all, but they should've realized no one likes new character models with old moves tacked on. Especially because there are SO MANY AWESOME CHARACTERS that could replace these clones. K. Rool, Krystal (I don't especially like HER, but she's got an energy-shooting staff, which would make for a very original moveset), etc etc. Damn damn damn.

Doing the blackhole glitch and mass throwing things into it til the game crashes is pretty good too

He is right.
They definitely should have changed their movesets. Or at least their final smashes. All of them are exactly the same. They are all tanks. It would be awesome if one of them was a starship or something else. I thought they were taking out clones.

anyway, i would much rather have krystal than wolf. at least krystal would have an original moveset and i don't feel like playing yet another fox clone.

i know the developers will never read this but i would just like to give them a mega thumbs-up because this game looks so fucking polished it's unbelievable

I used to do that too. Or using only land mines in SSB64 at Hyrule temple where they blend in really well. Good times.

I just found that out too. Glad they didn't waste a character by not giving players that option.

As for Wolf, he actually isn't that much of a clone from what I've seen. Some of his moves are similar but his up smash and side B look very different from the blurry vid I saw. His FS may be the same though, but I haven't seen that yet. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0H6uRcUADi8)

All in all, there are really only 3-4 clones, which isn't that bad when you consider the size of the roster.

It would be so much better with Krystal. She would probably be a fast character. She would hit people with a cane. She would shoot stuff out of the cane. It would be completely different. Playing with fox is basically playing with falco and wolf.

and no. Sakurai just said there would be UP TO 3 3rd party guys...and I still have no clue where people got that Sakurai said there would be no clones, he never said that..

Well, I'm not that upset anymore! Falco and Wolf both have some different A moves, stats, and each has AT LEAST one different B move! Cool. Still clone-like, but better than exact replicas. Ness and Lucas probably have extremely similar B moves, but their normal attacks and smashes seem pretty different. Hopefully they'll at least have different B's / side-B's. (Remember, Lucas's doesn't move down, but straight.) Ganondorf is slower, and might not actually be a clone at all. And, finally, Toon Link is pretty different. I just don't like that Toon Link and I guess Ganondorf look so different. Everyone is beautifully animated and polished, and then there are two cel-shaded characters. Just kind of messes up the balance, I think. I do think Krystal would have been better, but... Eh. I knew all along, obviously, that Zamus would be playable without a FS from the begining, but I was hoping that you could select her from the screen as you could Zelda or Sheik or any of the PT's pokemon. Maybe it's at the end of Samus' color changes and no one has checked yet...? I guess that'd be unrealistic, though. I wonder what the button is for when you're not using the Gamecube controller.

Just to get another discussion going, which controllers will you guys be using? Obviously the GC will be the most HARDCORE or whatever, but I think I might main using the Wiimote sideways. With the grips, it's insanely comfortable.

EDIT: Goddamnit DN put a hide tag on that! I didn't want to know the entire roster, ugh.
