this isn't really explicitly related to video games, but since it's probably best used on electronics, since they're by far the most expensive things k-mart sells, and we don't have an electronics forum, i figured i'd post it here.

maybe it is BIGBIGNEWS by now and i am late, idk, but k-mart is having this deal thing going on from 11/11-11/21 (dates split between two coupons) where you can get 20% off any one item in the store.  the coupon, i think, can be used at sears as well, but it doesn't work on sears brand electronics, so the main appeal is kind of lost.  the coupons themselves are difficult to find, as they're only available in certain books in the pharmacy of k-marts, and not only do not all k-marts even have pharmacies to begin with, but not all pharmacies will even contain the book.  however, i just took the image and printed it off at a local kinko's in color on glossy paper, and it looked convincing enough.  i went in tonight and bought some random cheap shit from the electronics section at a k-mart by where i live and it worked just fine.  hiret also bought a plasma tv with a printed out one tonight, so i think it's safe to say that you should be able to use it on the pricier items without arousing too much suspicion.  the coupon itself is legit, after all, even if the deal's technically void if you use a printed version.  like i said, just printing it on a piece of paper that looks even remotely like it came from a coupon book should be enough.  i was worried maybe they'd be suspicious about the paper being blank on the back, since books like those print on both sides of the paper, but realistically, very few people working in a k-mart are going to give a shit, so you should be safe.  the copies don't seem to scan, but if they enter the number manually it checks out fine.

aaaanyway, i just thought i'd give random people in the us/possibly canada who have k-marts within driving distances a heads up, as 20% off a video game console, especially with how crazily expensive they're getting this generation, is a pretty large chunk of change, and it might be a good opportunity to pick one up if you were on the fence about the price.  it's an even bigger deal if you're about to buy something like a television, and even if you're just buying a game or something, imo it's still probably worth it to save like $10-15, so yeah.  i myself was going to buy a 360, but i bought one on ebay instead, so now i'm thinking maybe i'll buy an ipod or a new zune or something, or maybe just an extra controller or guitar hero or something expensive that i don't feel like paying out the ass for.  anyway, here's the coupon itself.  it looks pretty good, even printed out, but i'd probably try to use a good printer.  i don't know about that dpi shit but the one i used was pretty big/expensive-looking so yeah.

This is really cool. However, I'm not sure about the legality of making copies of the coupons (YOU PROBABLY CANT). If for some reason they noticed that you were using a copy (perhaps because the back of the coupon is blank), would they just say "sorry we wont accept it" or would you actually get in legal trouble?

I could definitely use this to buy a new digital camera.

P.S. If you google the offer, lots of other forums are talking about this and even have .pdf's for you to download and print out your own coupon.

uh, i don't really know!  i guess it depends on a lot of factors.  i doubt the k-mart cashier you're dealing with is really going to give a shit about the legality of using a forged coupon, but if you run into a manager or someone and they do, then yeah maybe they'd be like HEY WAIT A MINUTE.  but at that point you could probably just pretend that you thought that the coupon was still valid and perfectly legal if you printed it off the internet (many are, so this isn't even an unusual concept) and then they'd probably just tell you that yeah, they couldn't take it.  i can't imagine anyone pressing the issue if you feigned ignorance, honestly.

and, i included the image i used, if you didn't catch it.  if the pdf is of higher quality, though, i'd use that.  it might actually scan, but at the very least, it'd look a bit more legitimate.  the fine print on mine was a little blurry, but that might very well be unavoidable regardless of what version of the scan you print out (i've seen really bad ones), as half the time the fine print on the coupons themselves is blurry.

Here's what it looks like to me.  You have 4 11 17 07 142.  If I were to take my best guess, I'd have to say that:

4:  is the offer number (as in this could be offer type 4 or the fourth time they've done this this year)
11:  the month of the sale
17:  the date the sale ends
07:  the year of the sale
142:  the ID number of the coupon

If you really wanted to be a stickler about this, you'd change the last three numbers and use a barcode generator to approximate the lines in MS Paint, so if it turns out they DO have to scan, it checks out.  Some other guy would probably be fucked, but hey, he'd be using a real coupon, and a manager could probably tell.  You'd be using UPC-A here and substituting the space in the middle for a zero, so "41117007142."  They look quite similar.

Oh, and I can kind of see the ad on the back.  Just a heads-up.

This works for some people and doesn't for others, I just used it to buy a second PS3 for my bedroom (a 40gb, I already have a 60gb) and it only cost me $319 before tax. I tried to use a print out and they told me copies were not valid but if you go to the pharmacy section you can find this coupon in a book. It has something about the Flu on the front cover and there's a picture of a mommy and a child if that helps any.

yeah, i thought that was odd too.  i guess maybe it's understandable if his brother or someone is on the current one CONSTANTLY.  i've never really had to share my consoles, but i could imagine that getting annoying.

My PS3 is in my living room because that's where I do most of my gaming/movie watching at, but I just bought a new 32" SHarp Aquos for my bedroom (it's fucking awesome), and I couldn't resist the $320 price tag on the PS3.

Dude why not buy something you DON'T ALREADY HAVE like say an Xbox360 which would cost just as much.

I may use this to buy an iPod if my K-mart has the coupon. Does anyone know if iPods are cheaper on black Friday or would it cost me less to use this coupon?

I'll buy a game if it's be cheaper to buy the iPod on black Friday.

Not everyone likes the 360 and/or Wii so having two ps3's would appeal to them more than a system they would never use.
