Do we really know what saga this is set in yet? I mean yes it does very much seem like it will be DragonBall, but the pure testosterone of leveling planets is something that modern cinema has been without. I would much like to see this movie as part of a trilogy of Dragon Ball Z. The first movie about Radditz and Vegita, the second About Freiza and the third about the androids and cell, though admitedly this would make each film a minimum of 3 hours long, and the special effects budget would be through the wroof.
I am not happy with the casting choice, I would much rather they use only real asians for the roles, you know, to get the real feel of the masterpiece series. Jackey Chan, Jet Li, Chou Yun Fat (I am so happy he is in it) would make perfect characters, and by including such Japanese superstars as gackt and perhaps including the korean model, fashion designer and comics artist extraordianaire Pat "Superstar" Lee as Vgetea would be a much successful move. But definately using american actores and names would be a direct insult to us fans of the series. I Heard Goku will be named george something to make the names appeal more to a western audience. Is this true?
If they have to use American actors then they really have to use the best of the trade such as Brad Pit, Angelina Jolie, Ice Cube, Tom Cruise, Nick Cage, Ben Afflect, J-Lo, Queen Latifa, Jack B;lack etc because those are the only actors and actresses who I think have the acting ability in order to fully capture the feel of DragonBall. The idea of Tom Hanks or Will Smith playing Goku is one I often think about fondely.
I expect a really high special effects budget (in equal proportion to the amount of money spent on hiring the previously mentioned actors) because it will be a direct insult to the fans if they use cheap special effects, It would be like watching an old movie, and I only watch old movies to laugh at how un-matrix-ey those movies are (because The Matricx is the pinical of theatrical entertainment). But yes I hope that Weta Workshop are emplpoyed for this movie because thier work on other anime projects such as that pretentious garbage Evenlion are really really flashy and pretty and make watching the movies really entertaining for me. I expect the lightening fast fights to be truely equal to those in Transformers, perhaps with even more slow motion, so we as an audience can see how Goku's muscles ripple when he punches Samuel L Jackson through a cliff, or we can see the Sweat as majin Buu destroys earth at the end of the second movie.
As for directors there are very few people who can do DragonBallZ the justice it deserves, most notibly Michawel bay because he is an excellent director at giving us a strong noticable plot progrwession in a film, and he focuses on the characters yet stops the pace in order to give us a really flashy fight scene, which is what I really look for in movies. Stephen Spielburges would also be a good director, as with working with tom Cruise they together can create a truely emotional experience (something I expect from the works of the sainted Toriyama), but I must say that Peter jackson works marvels with special effects and that makes even Lord of the rings seem a thouroughly enjoybale film series . Though indeed with Stephen Chow at the helm I am sure we will be treated to a real comedy delight, but personally my opinion is that he should work with the other directors I mentioned, along with Weta Workshop and the previously mentioned acting cast, to create a fully authentic Dragonball Z excperience.
This is my view, my hopes and my expectations on what the dragonball Z movie should be

This will no doubt be the greatest movie ever made, and I really cannot wait for it to hit the big screen, and I assure you, when I go to the cinema to watch it, me and my fellow DragonBallers will be in costume, for the full experience, as I hope you people will be too :3
