I know this movie is terrible, let me get that out of the way. Godawful. Would not pay for it in any form.

But it misses the mark so fucking widely that I have to give it credit. I realize RUN LEFT TO RIGHT 32 TIMES doesn't translate well onto screen, but making it a cyberpunk-ish science-fiction action comedy? That enters some brave new world of fucking-it-uppery.

i was really hoping they'd do this just like the actual show but no it's just turning into something they're doing seriously. why?? i think that a DEADPAN SERIOUS MOVIE WHERE THEY DO ALL THE RIDICULOUS SHIT FROM DBZ would be (unintentionally?) hilarious. ugh.

Wait... Maybe... Maybe the Mario Bros movie is extremely accurate! Maybe that's what the Mushroom Kingdom really looks like when you're not eating shrooms all day.

The trailer is bad.. the movie just isn't have the feel of DragonBall.. They don't look alike, the theme is too serious... etcc etc

And why is their that clip of the boyracer car in the trailer? Fast an Furious meets Goku and shitty costumes.

This definitely looks nothing like Dragon Ball for the most part, but I could still see it being cheesy and awesome in some ways. But yeah it does look like a bunch of shots from random movies thrown together, I would hope a movie like this would show some imagination in some way even if it's a total joke - like it should be like KUNG FU HUSTLE in my mind

wtf is that? Man this is going to be an absolutely terrible movie. I would've liked to have seen it in the same light that they did Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. They took something that would seem inherently cheesy and turned it into two very dark and deep films. Maybe DBZ is just TOO CHEESY to start so the only way it can go is down, but I mean... it's like they aren't even trying.

Yup, movie makers will spend thousands just to annoy nerds. Nothing enjoys expensive studios more than flushing money down the drain.

It's a test to see how the prosphetics look on camera/film. It's a final design (and looks consciderably more interesting than some lame monkey) and they ain't gunna change it apart from minor cosmetics. Deal with it.

"fans" aren't the audience for this movie. The general public are, if a movie of any franchise was made to please it's fans it'd be the worst box office failure in history. Look at Transformers, look at Dark Knight, look at the upcomming G.I. Joe movie. Stuff gets changed to make it appeal to a wider audience. Very few people would take the idea of a stupid monkey being some ultra-powerful being as a serious concept, even for a movie based on dbz it would lose all credibility.

dude the transformers fans threw a major spaz when the designs were changed and they didn't look retro. Batman fans initially spat out their gamerfuel bars when they saw Heath Ledger's joker look nothing like a clown, G.I. Joe fans cried little sick tears into their kfc buckets when stormshadow was revealed wearing modern attire instead of a gi outfit. american godzilla fans nearly commited suicide when godzilla was released in 97.
These kind of superficial changes happen all the time because some ideas don't always work. Regardless of speical effects when someone turns into a monkey... they turn into a monkey. That isn't what the average moviegoer wants unless it's a comedy film(and any comedy film with that premise is a shit comedy film, but will end up selling millions because people are dumb and think anything with monkeys in is hilarious). They want sleak and sexy, they want modern.

See, the bits in bold were actually a very good post, it's just the rest is pretty stupid (and the follow-up).

So what if it's a monkey? That's the original. Would you have preferred to have seen a GIANT ALIEN replacing King Kong in the/a remake? King Kong is the man.

If it's the original, you should stick to the original, it's not about it 'selling better', a giant earth-destroying monkey is an awesome idea if pulled off correctly. There's no point excusing it if they changed it (I mean, hell. you excused Godzilla 97 in your last post which was pretty stupid, that film was terrible).
