I recently picked up a copy of the newest Children of Bodom album - Are You Dead Yet? And it has two bonus song covers... The first is a cover of britany spears' oops I did it again! I kid you not!

I think its pretty good, but I cant help but laugh every time I hear it!

The second cover was of a poison song, Talk Dirty to Me. Its equally as entertaining!

So, whats your opinion of metal bands covering pop songs? I think its awesome and they need to do it more! Makes otherwise... weak sounding music pretty good!

Now that I think about it, oops I did it again could pass as an emo song, if covered right. In matter of fact, Im pretty sure all of spears songs could.
And sweet cover. Its ten times better than the original, imo. Covering old pop songs with metal is a nice idea...but like any cover you risk completely ruining the song.

There's a English band called Ten Masked Men who do this kind of thing.

That sounds an awful lot like Cannibal Corpse's cover (the only death metal band mentioned so far in this thread)
I think Cannibal Corpse also did a cover of AC/DC's she shook me all night long, I think being the key word here.

I used to have Ten Masked Men albums because I was kinda interested how they'd pull it off but seriously, their music sucks. The songs aren't even funny. :(

haha, yeah heard this. COB is great.

There's also this gathering of finnish metal peeps, including Tony Kakko, Marco Hietala, Jarkko Ahola and J-P Leppäluoto called Northern Kings. They cover 80s pop-songs (at the moment), it's symphonic metal or power metal (I'm too confused with all the genres.. it's metal, yes)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKwQKqQ8MMY, here's cover of Tina Turners We don't need another hero..

EDIT: my Are You Dead Yet?, ,, doesn't have any extra  :fogetcry:

No, it even says on Wikipedia that they didnt. It doesn't say who it was actually done by either.

As far as I know, Norther did the cover of Final Countdown, but it sounds so much like Children of Bodom that everyone thinks they did it.

I now have all studio albums from Children of Bodom and I do not see anything on the track list about covering the final countdown. I would guess if they did it was unofficial.

Or that it might be on the Japanese edition of their cd or on some rare version or EP.

Edit: Norther are the ones that covered The Final Countdown on their album Dream of Endless War. However, CoB did cover the Ramones, Stone, Britney Spears and Poison

Actually, I just found out it was by the band Dispatched and it was on their album Motherwar.

Edit: I think Wikipedia is deceiving us.
