I'm trying to convince my friends, well those who watch anime, to watch this show. I've watched most of the series and it is indeed a classic. It's a story of a Sweeper from Japan, who has a certain weakness for the ladies, and his partner who has to keep him in line. It started in 1987, so the animation style looks really old an dated by today's standards. But, the characters look more realistic as well, which I personally prefer. There are a number of great episodes and a great number of episodes.  Having 51, 65, 13 and 13 episodes in seasons 1, 2, 3, and 4 respectively. So, if you are able to find this show anywhere, I highly recommend you watch it, or the movies. The series itself is only subbed, but most of the movies are dubbed. If you prefer dubbed, than a good introduction to City Hunter would be the OAV City Hunter: The Million Dollar Conspiracy. It'll give you a good taste of what the series is about, with little to zero spoilers of the series.

I've seen the live film adaption with jackie chan and the film's theme song is the funniest thing I've ever heard.

City Hunter, that's the thing with that Jackie Chan Street Fighter scene that anyone who's ever had access to the Internet has seen, right?

That was the adaptation, yes. But that's not what the topic is about. The actual series is actually very long running with several feature length titles.

The movie adaptation was pretty good if you dont take it seriously. Though it had very little to do with City Hunter aside from a couple of names.
