So, since the creation of the Q&A Forum, I have been confused as to where topics should go, in general or there???
So if this should be a [Tell] or something topic in that forum someone move it I guess?

So, this topic is for the discussion of <real life> competitions. Things like places where you are sent by your school to compete in stuff, from sports to math, and how it went etc. I guess a good example of what I am expecting is my story of programming.............

So, yesterday I went with some people from my school to a computer science competition, it started off with me ditching class early to go and find my team mates(im a rebel). Instead, I run into the person I went to it last year with, and then I find my other team mates we all go to the university to where it is being held(UoW lmao(canadians would get the joke)).

We get there a bit late, and start right away. So we are doing our problems in c++ and this sorta pissed the judges off, cause lol everyone is doing it in java(gay). So we are given 5 problems that we have to code, one of them was something about finding out if a number is a multiple of 11, another to find the largest square of A's and B's and some factorial one. Me being the only one who knew how to code out of my team of 3, I was very stressed.

The competition heated up and one of the teams sent some girl to come distract us from doing our work, but I was being yelled at as I was trying to converse with her, she didnt succeed though, since we finished 3/5 of the problems and landed 3rd place only to two teams of asians from the same school.

3rd place isnt too bad out of 19 teams though, so I am pretty proud of myself, cause I got to play dragonforce(oh gh3) on a giant projector right after~~~

So, your stories of achievement and wonder?!

If a topic is requesting specific information that only certain knowledgeable people would be able to answer and doesn't apply to other subforums, put it in Q&A. That's pretty much the rule of thum in distinguishing General & Q&A. This is suited for General since it's more of a discussion rather than an information retrieval.

Ok, now to get onto this topic, I really haven't participated in any competitions ever that I can recall, so unfortunately I can't comment much!

Is he talking about Western or Waterloo? Because what I said pretty much stands true for both, but moreso for Western.

I am pretty sure it's Waterloo, as it is very well known for it's computer science. But I may be wrong. :)

Edit to remove stupid comment.

I'm on the high school debate team which I guess is pretty cool because I get to miss shitloads of class and get a free period. In the last tournament our team (the only team from my school that went) went 4-1 in the preliminaries but we couldn't break to the elims because we had a three person team (my partner had to switch out on one of the days). So in the end it was pretty fun because we got to mess up the brackets :D

While it's not a competition, I participated in the 24 hour comic book day last month.  You have 24 hours to draw and ink 24 pages.

I did 6.

Last year I participated in this draw a manga comic competition. I didn't win but got my comic published nonetheless and 250 € of fine revenue to boot. Makes me a little sad though since I would've made more bucks by submitting the comic to this Finnish indie manga magazine but oh well!

Also a couple of months ago me and my brother participated in this nation-wide math competition for high schoolers and just recently we both received an invitation to Finland's MATH OLYMPICS TRAINING TEAM hot damn.

I won a furby once from entering a comp on a rice bubbles packet..

And also growing up I always won the colouring in competitions and drawing competitions in school, same with the poster and bookmark competitions XD

I got asked not to compete by the teacher once.. to "give the others a chance" :|

Also seemed to win the spelling competitions a lot.

I suck at all the maths ones though :(

When I was a little kid, I did Karate. I went to the national championships when I was like eleven or something and took third place, so don't mess with me!

After that, I was on my middle school's MathCounts team. We went to state, and two of our team went to nationals.

sorry but this sounds like the easiest programming contest I have ever heard of. what is it testing your ability to use modulus operator??
