there is not enough metal in this forum anymore.

i feel like we are losing touch with our roots.  i have not been listening to much metal lately, although i have been picking up protest the hero and strapping young lad's albums again here and there.

also can anyone reccomend me some superprogressive metal (i like btbam a lot but i hate spiral architect)?

Into the Moat (More techcore-ish, with some dark jazzy passages.) http://youtube.com/watch?v=y1apIcQeBo0
Sikth (Has a very cool groove feel, the tapping at 1:50 is amazing)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ARTvoqqn8U8

Also. DS's list pretty much kicks-ass, so anything on there
Specially Meshuggah and Ephel Duath.

EDIT: Anyone hear colors? Its pretty much amazing.

Anyway

If you want super progressive metal try Spastic Ink or Death. If you want the best death metal ever get The Crown's Deathrace King (currently zoo'ed).

they are like
arty prog metal i guess.  or maybe they are metalcore, but i dont think so.  metalcore is like POP SCREAMING METAL (not emo) right?  BTBAM is more akin to prog/art death.

i hate genres.  whatever!
they are fucking fantastic.
just listen to one of their albums would you like me to zoo them?

I couldnt remember what it stood for either. The Crowns vocalist is pretty good!, although his newest project isn't that special. (One man army and the undead quartet).

Also you you guys heard about At the Gates reforming to do shows? Pretty exciting.

Sure if you decide to disregard their s/t and Silver. Even Conqueror has some metal elements.

I hope you are kidding when you say Jesu is not metal.

But, I would suggest the following:

Psyopus
Breather Resist
The Chariot
Destroy Destroy Destroy
Into Eternity
Ion Dissonance
Johnny Truant
A Life Once Lost ( HIGHLY SUGGESTED )
Mouth of the Architect ( HIGHLY SUGGESTED AS WELL )

I don't listen to metal near as much as I used to, because after a while I realized a lot of it was really uninspired despite the muscicians being very proficient.

I still regularly listen to:
Tiamat
Samael
Riverside
Fates Warning
Queensryche
Savatage
Threshold
Kamelot

None of them are really similar to BtBaM but some of them are pretty progressive (FW and Queensryche FOUNDED progressive metal afterall) and some of the others on the list are pretty unique like Tiamat and Samael.

As much as I hate to admit it, BTBAM is indeed a metalcore (metal with hardcore influences, or vice versa) band.
Their self-titled and The Silent Circus are excellent examples of some of their hardcore sound. If you want to hear a good metalcore band, not the generic shit thats being passed as metalcore nowadays (As I lay Dying, Kill Switch Engage, etc.), Listen to Botch.
However, alot of people (including me) would argue that the hardcore influences on Alaska and Colors are almost non-existent, making them more of a prog-metal band. But thats just my outlook on it.

EDIT: Also, check out Behold... the Arctopus, some would argue that they are to technical, others that they sound like 3 year olds banging their instruments.
