Firstly, click this link: http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/tech/2007/11/27/yeates.ut.robo.soldier.ksl

Watch the video.  It's awesome.

For those of you who don't watch it, the military has a prototype of a robotic exoskeleton that can easily lift heavy loads and allow soldiers to do difficult tasks with ease.  It's a nerd's dream come true, and the models they have for future versions look like something straight out of RoboCop.  I can't wait until there are soldiers that don't even use guns; they'll just run at their enemies and throw them into walls and such, like in Crysis.

But this will definitely have other purposes down the road as well.  Instead of using fork lifts, scrawny guys get into one of these things and kill all of their co-workers much faster.

lol, anime conventions :P

EDIT: as awesome as this is, its still not full powered exo-suit, more like a support system. Were a full system it would fit over him like a glove including fingers instead of hooks. still its awesome none the less and shows that slowly were getting there.

EDIT: I would say its closer to semi powered Armour, which is still WAY better then none. should help us squish any aliens that try to take over the world :woop::woop: .

This is about as amazing and futuristic as the painray thing we had a topic on a while ago. I'd love to see them put laser cutters or something geeky like that on it.

You know its times like these when you look from this to video games like cough halo cough that make you realize that the GOVERNMENT is taking actual ideas from these games. Those exo suits at the end look like master chiefs. Not to be all super nerd but I just think its pretty close.

I'll just run up some stairs, it seemed to give the robot a bit of trouble to go up one without stopping for about 10 seconds.

This is still really cool though!

That crazy bear suit guy has actually developed a pretty serious suit of armour. Give it five more years of technological advances and a bit more money, and he'd have some damn effective combat gear. People make fun of him all the time, but if I was going into a firefight I wouldn't mind being invulnerable and spraying deadly murder gas.

That robot exoskeleton (which I remember seeing prototypes of five years ago) is really scary, though. At the end they say "it will be fully autonomous one day".

Dude, that bear-suit guy is awesome. What a badass. People are making fun of him but that guy must be a genius to put something like that together. It's pretty damn awesome too. With some modifications and improvements, that thing could be a very good suit for real combat.

Awesome, and the grizzly guy video was pretty sweet too as far as I can tell. A little batshit crazy? Sure. But look at all the greats in history... they were all kind of looney in some way or another. At least he's confident in his vision and isn't just some nerd going HAY GUYS LOOK AT MAH MECH wut does it do um IT LOOKS COOL YA?
