Kids shows were really better back in our days.
I watched stuff like Ghostbusters, Duckula, Spaceship Sagitarius(although this shit was pretty hardcore. characters died and in the last episode the main character tries to commit suicide), Reboot, Beast War and other good 90s shows.

I think it's really just because, as a celebrity, and especially as a child actor on a family network, she's expected to be a good role model for their viewer base...  Which is kind of hard when you're having sex and getting pregnant at a young age, especially at an age that, in some states, is still illegal.  Plus, plenty of people who watch the show are younger than she is and still try to be like her (I do not know why television glorifies the YOUNG KIDS ACT LIKE ADULTS still because it's such a fucked up idea) and this could end up seeming like a PRETTY OKAY THING TO DO.

Which it ISN'T.

EDIT: I mean FUCK, I don't even think most people are ready and prepared enough to have children by the age of 21, let alone 16. (no offense to anyone I may have inadvertently offended with this comment)
She's not supposed to be a role model. She's supposed to be an actor, and ACT like they tell her to. What she does when she's off set is her own business.

But because she acts on a "hit" tween-preteen TV show, she inadvertently became a role model to the viewers.

Yeah, it is her own business, but when you become a famous actress, 'specially in front of a young audience, you take the position of a role model, whether you like it or not. Its just your choice if you want to be a good or bad role model.

yeah, roman, what kinda shows did you watch when you were 12? i was watching dbz, pokemon, catdog and powerpuff girls (i just checked http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1998_in_television and picked ones i know i watched sometime in my life)

the 12 year olds of this generation are already being SEXED UP way too much, mentally. i already knew about that shit when i was that age but it wasnt force fed to me on tv. our generation is turning out pretty shit, what the fuck is the next one gonna be like?

edit: i take this pretty harshly because my 6 year old neice is already joking about doing lapdancing and shit. seriously. it fucking sucks. stupid tv. stupid bratz. (and stupid my brother and his girlfriend for letting her watch that disgusting shit)

All the kids now are watching shows where every episode is about dating, making out, or looking hott in new clothes.

We watched shows about mutant turtles and car that transformed into badass robots.

guys did you read the part where i said i had never seen zoey 101

also what i got from velfarre's post was that the show had BAD WRITING (dumb jokes and shit) so i thought she had just listed a bad example

EVEN SO i think you guys are being a little paranoid!  all the family shows i've seen have been pretty tame when it comes to this stuff; i don't see a problem with having DATING on the show (which i hear is a normal part of any person's social development), and uh yeah BIKINIS aren't that big of a deal either they're not turning OUR PRECIOUS CHILDREN into sluts ok.

also jester and erave what is wrong with this statement:  WHEN I WAS A LITTLE BOY I WATCHED THESE SHOWS BUT THE LITTLE GIRLS OF TODAY ARE WATCHING THESE OTHER SHOWS I CAN'T BELIEVE IT

on the other hand yeah bratz is pretty awful and disgusting and they probably are turning our precious children into sluts i vote we ban bratz from the universe

The type of kids who watch this shit don't FOLLOW STARS AROUND either irl or on the internet. They model themselves after the character, not the person.

edit: what I am saying is that the kids who watch ZOEY 101 or Family Channel for that matter are not the same kids who watch MTV for the most part. MTV kids are the kids who do INTERNET RESEARCH on celebrities where the FC kids are content just looking up lyrics for CATCHY POP TUNEZ

Are you kidding me? While I understand why you'd think that, I have to disagree. I have two kid sisters, one 10 and one 12, and they both follow the stars of the TV shows (which includes the Disney Channel and shit) and music they listen to pretty closely. They read those tween/teen magazines, read about happenings on those fan sites on the net, and even occasionally watch MTV and even friggin' VH1. It's reasonable to assume that their friends do all of this as well. I wouldn't be surprised if they've already heard of this.

I agree with this.  My sister does the exact same thing.

If its that show where there's this fat kid and this ""normal" kid (olololololo) and its supposed to have witty dialog then no.

No fucking way.

Are you for real Roman?

They're supposed to be kids. Sure, it's common to see some older dumb blonde and her friend conversating about their bikinis on other television networks... Since you know, they are most likely sexually active or are of age, and the target audience are older.

But umm, this shit on family channel? If they were to make some references to how they looked here and there it wouldn't bother me, especially on shows with female leads. However, these family channel shows have the most ditzy dumb kids ever who only read a whole bunch of scripts about their looks and impressing some boy. Don't ya know that it's kids as young as 7-8 watching this? Sure, have your little crush and all but please keep the sexual presence out of it... And you know, try and promote ACTUAL content instead of this combustion of PINK, BLUE, FLUFFY STUFF, COLOURFUL CLOTHES AND SKIRTS, LOL IMPRESS BOY/FIGHT OFF POPULAR GIRL, AND TALK ABOUT MORE CLOTHES AND APPEARANCE.

Really and truly, they are just brainwashing these kids until they get older so they can buy the music cds/100 other products and then the clothing products these lead actresses come out with. Just look at the trend... Mary Kate & Ashley, Hilary Duff, Amanda Bynes (well not so much her, she wasn't blonde enough), and now it's that country girl Hannah Montana.

Honestly, I watch some of this crap with my 10 year old sister and I've changed the channel many times because of the pointless garbage that is spewed throughout the show.

There are some pretty good shows on family channel though and some of them are quite funny. You got to understand that some viewers are young girls growing up and what they watch can really effect how they feel about themselves with all these excessive emphasis on looks or how they should act. So Yeah, I watch the shows with any of my younger relatives and if I don't like what I see I change the channel or at least point out how stupid the situation is.

I agree with this post. I have watched these shows and basically it's giving a sense of desire to children. Desire to look "hott", dress "hott", wear fancy accessories, and the pressure to date and get that first kiss way before kids need to be thinking about it. They push material gifts, glorfying disrespect to parents, saying it's ok to be stupid, making it seem normal and funny to think school is dumb, make it seem humorous for someone to be smart, make it a priority in kid's life to obtain glittery cell phones. Fuck, my kid isn't entitled to a fucking cellphone at the age of 11. Even in the most innocent of shows all the characters can talk about is "babes" (if they are boys) or that "hottie with a swimmer's body" (exact quote from the terrible Hannah Montana). Is our society really that shallow these days? (don't answer that)
