So, recently the ONE MORE DAY storyline written by Straczynski and written by Joe Quesada wrapped up. Pretty much all of Stracznski's for the past few years on ASM has been anything BUT classic Spidey action. Instead, we get a bunch of (brilliant stories) that keep changing Peter Parker's life again and again. Gwen Stacy had an affair with Norman Osborn before her death, he got organic webbing, dies and is reborn, reveals his identity, and some details in classic stories have been changed a bit.

This could be spoiler, but just fuck it. Basically, due to Civil War, Aunt May got shot and Pete went apeshit. He went to Doctor Strange and everybody to save her, nobody could help. All of a sudden, Mephisto, ends up saying he can save her but just for laughs, they have to sacrifice their marriage. So, some more bitching and they accept the offer. Everything is the same except Peter Parker never apologized in issue #37 which came out like 50 years ago. Spider fans get their centuries of continuity screwed over AGAIN. Aunt May is saved, for like the 100th fucking time thanks to Peter Parker.

AUNT MAY WON'T DIE.

Joe Quesada has been like the only guy to really fucking hate the Peter Parker/Mary Jane marriage. For like 30 years he's been trying and failing(Clone Saga) to get them apart. Finally, he chooses one of the dumbest possible ways to do it. Amazing Spider-Man is now 3 times a month with Dan Slott writing. That's a good thing, but now Spider-Man's storyline is pretty much REBOOTED. NOW JOE QUESADA GETS EVERYTHING HE WANTED. PETER PARKER GETS TO BE JEALOUS OVER HARRY OSBORN'S GIRLFRIEND ALL OVER AGAIN PLUS MORE FRIENDS AND FAMILY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AND HE'S SINGLE.

HOW MUCH MORE CAN THEY DO TO FUCK UP PARKER.

EDIT: Oh wait this isn't manga. What's a Spider-Man?

I don't know how many Spider-Man stories and branches there are, because I stopped reading them all. Too much for me.

Spider-Man stopped being good in 1991.

I used up all my Nerd Rage on the death of Captain America.  I just can't feel too angry about this, no matter how much I want to.

He died, but what followed were excellent stories and stuff as well. Hell, the on-going Captain America series is still REALLY DAMN GOOD despite being Captain-less for 7 issues. Ed Brubaker makes the best of any situation.

The latest Spider-Man issues have been really good, but the thing is continuity is being ruined. So now Captain America never knew Mary Jane Watson, Aunt May's house never blew up, etc etc etc. But at the same time supposedly NOTHING changed. Continuity is fucked.

Yeah this is why comic books have gotten pretty gay since the time I've read them when I was a kid, but even this isn't new, so I don't really know what to say.

How did I not have any idea about Brand New Day?

Amazing Spider-Man is now 3 times a month

About the retconning, though continuity will stay the same, there will still be problems. The "What If?" series always has these stories that change one small variable in mainstream continuity and as a result creates this entirely different world. Even then, Mary Jane and Peter Parker are not together anymore

Also, again the state of Spider-Man as a character is changed back to 1971. So all his organic web shit and everything never happened....so basically nothing happened. so basically wtf.

This especially sucks when you realise that massive changes to the status quo in comics often lead to very good stories (at least when properly thought out...). I mean, think about it: The Phoenix saga in X-Men, Bullseye killing Elektra, Gwen Stacy dying, the Joker shooting Barbara Gordon in the spine, Daredevil's secret identity being leaked to the press... All are considered to be some of the greatest stories in comics simply because the writers weren't afraid to fuck about with the formula. And just as it looked like Straczynski was going to do the same in Spider-Man, the editors copped out and basically said "the last thirty years? it was all just a dream".
Well, there's always Ultimate Spider-Man...

thecatamites, that makes it such a shame ultimate spider-man turned to crap when they changed the team :/
only good marvel series since G.I. Joe and they had to kill it.
Yah I love this whole "Spider-man your life never happened, the last thing you remember was going to school" crap. Kinda feel blargh that they stole one of DC's routines but meh, it's always good to giggle at.

Well, the thing with DC is they SAID that they were rebooting and gave readers a warning. On Spider-Man they simply just wiped everything out and it pretty much, again, ruined continuity.

Also, I don't see how Ultimate Spider-Man turned to crap. It's still Brian Michael Bendis, just not Bagley doing the pencil's.

Yeah, uh, I'm not nearly old enough to have been collecting Spider-Man comics back in the day, so I could never catch up with all that stuff. Again, that's why there's Ultimate Spider-Man: so kids like me don't have to try (And fail) to get into old school. It's just too difficult.

And, yeah, that whole ordeal sounds like it sucks. :(

yeah well like always marvel tries one of DC's tricks and ends up ruining everything :3

The more recent Ultimate Spiderman gets, the worse it's getting. It just feels so RANDOM now, like ten pages of MJ and Spidey arguing then five of RANDOM BADDIE FIGHT then ten of random ultimates guest appearance for no reason other than to most likely promote readership of their own titles because ultimate spidey is still the only one that is readable.

Why do people read Spider-Man anymore? Everything's already been done twenty times and everyone's already been killed twenty times each. Nothing actually sticks anymore. Might as well call it RETCON-MAN! Pointless comic book.

The Ultimates is pretty good though. I like how they release it as self contained series' instead of just churning out issue after issue.

Honestly, I've really dug the ONE NEW DAY stuff. The shit they pulled was terrible, but the new arc with Dan Slott and STEVE MCNIVEN on pencils is really grabbing my attention. The new characters and backup stories are fucking awesome too. Plus all this THREE TIMES A MONTH!?

I'm still pissed at Quesada.

I've heard some people say that the whole 'Brand New Day' series (the post-retcon one) is actually pretty good, but I'm still a bit wary of it... Anyone read the new ones? Should I check them out, or avoid 'em like the plague?

The Ultimates is pretty good though.

...I'm guessing you haven't read Ultimates 3...

they are good. I mean, they aren't as great as people are saying, and I think MJ is that new registered superhero but so far, pretty good imho.

it's got a decent team onboard too.
