It appears that anyone who used "I will upload my own avatar" has a broken avatar.  I just uploaded mine to the uploader and then set it to use that image as my avatar to fix it.

Did you upload it to the actual GW Uploader, and set your avatar to be the web address of the uploaded file?  I wasn't very clear in my post.  Because it worked fine for me.  If it didn't, the uploader may be broken for some, but it works fine for me.

Yeah, I had to upload my avatar in the uploader and then set avatar by URL in the Profile Options, but it worked fine for me.

When I click on the Uploader it ask me to log in (even though I'm logged in) and then it takes me back to the index.

When I uploaded my avatar, which is within regulation size I got this message:
"The attachments upload directory is not writable. Your attachment or avatar cannot be saved."
