1.lol, in the Grand Scheme of Things, nothing we do matters because we will All die. (I luv that logic)
you giant idiot

Quote from: 'Xeno|Soft
Coal is one of the earths most abundant resources' date=' what are you talking about? Just because we can't reuse doesn't make it rare.[/quote']
Quote
At the end of 2006 the recoverable coal reserves amounted around one exagram (1 × 1015 kg or 998 billion tons), approximately half of it being hard coal. The energy value of all the world's recoverable coal is 27 zettajoules, which is expected to last 164 years.[31]
this is a problem

Quote from: 'Xeno|Soft
Not only that' date=' we are in the transition era, where are power sources are being forced to switch.[/quote']
why the fuck do you think power sources are being forced to switch? because everyone is wasting energy, because we're relying on fossil fuels, because of the effects on the environment.

Quote from: 'Xeno|Soft
2. I know a lot' date=' is it more than you? I dont know, because I don't know you. I'm glad you can call me ignorant without even knowing me though. I haven't said anything ignorant, however I could call you ignorant for talking about advertisement without understanding it, but I wont.[/quote']
oh but you have, dude. you've said many ignorant things. you call me ignorant about advertisement and assume i don't know anything about it - i do. i just don't think advertisement is that fucking great that we need to waste energy on it.

here is another instance where you were really ignorant:

"Yeah, I have to agree a lot of energy is being used, however it is not wasted. It is used to advertise, which is a great strategy. Also they pay for the bill, not anyone else so I really have a hard time hating them for it."

it's just mindboggling that you could have this thought path.

BY THE WAY ON TOPIC:

if you get angry at gizmodo being dicks you have no sense of humour. who the fuck cares, its funny.

Who the fuck cares about the energy being wasted. So much more gets wasted on other useless things and you choose to bitch about it now? Like, ...what? Also, I doubt that the energy they used for the presentations would have been enough to permanently damage the world, so yeah. Why not start complaining about other wasted things which actually DO hurt the less fortunate?

Also, the joke would be funny...in primary school. This is just immature and any responsible adult wouldn't go around doing this at a huge presentation like CES. There's a difference between doing this there and a TV store.
Trust me, I have a good sense of humour and this isn't funny.

Ohhhh, I'm sorry please enlighten me as to why advertisement exist in the form it does today(since you now claim to know about it), it is a very simple reason that doesn't even get into the complexity the human mind.  If you knew anything about advertisement you would know it is KEY to allowing business to survive, especially in this day and age.

The reason advertisements are done the way it is today is such a simple reason too, and you really have no other choice but to do it.

and that is not an ignorant statement, do you even know what ignorant means? Your logic makes no sense. You seem to be taking this out of context ...to some global world threat level, which Advertisement doesn't even put a dent in(pollution).  Advertisement is not a waste if it brings in customers who bring you attention, who bring you money. That is its goal...it would only be a waste of those ads failed to do their job.

Also, please refrain from making things personal like calling me names...what are you? 12? If you want to flame go find another 12 year old.

Advertisement is not a waste if it makes people buy consumer goods that will soon become trash meaning all the resources they spent in making those goods were just wasted?

I guess that after all money is much more important than anything else, and it's OK to generate massive amounts of trash as long as WE'RE MAKIN MANEY!!!!!!!1!!

i dont think this should be allowed

Quote from: banksy
The people who truly deface our neighborhoods are the companies that scrawl their giant slogans across buildings and buses trying to make us feel inadequate unless we buy their stuff. They expect to be able to shout their message in your face from every available surface but you're never allowed to answer back. Well, they started this fight, and the walltv remote is the weapon of choice to hit them back.

xenosoft, there comes a time in every mans life when he realizes that it's time to put down his animes and start paying attention to the real world.

also, why did you let pot noodle and xsmfpt flamebait you into trying to justify coal energy? that was dumb/funny

Umm, as much as you guys would like to give a hoozah at the imaginary slight to the big man, the prank was childish, malicious, and only disrupted events people worked to put up and attend to. I'm pretty sure I'd be extremely irritated if someone barged into my university's student gallery and shut down the screens the multimedia students use. Oh, I'm sure the university is really hurting now that one of their student shows was sabotaged! Who does that university think they are? Taking people's money to provide them with services. Its a symbolic attack on their ideals that a random prankster f@#$% up a student's thesis show.

Also, these are peoples JOBS we're talking about.  There were people who were chosen to present those products, and if suddenly things don't work, no one watching is going to have a good opinion about that product.  That affects an ENTIRE COMPANY, which as much as people want to TAKE DOWN THE BIG BUSINESS GUYS, those are normal everyday people working there, and lots of them.  I'm not saying this stunt is ruining an entire business by itself, but that doesn't mean it couldn't do something negative to those people in charge of that presentation.

The guy(s?) in charge of this are banned from CES now, and other similar events have been thinking about banning them too.

They're still laughing about it though, and they seem to think this is pretty funny too:

Quote from: From their site
While much of the internet may be up in arms over Richard Blakeley's recent IR-induced video stunt, a 14-year-old boy from Poland allegedly took an IR hack to more tragic proportions this week, and has been accused of hacking a standard TV remote to override track switching at rail junctions in the city of Lodz. Four trams were derailed and (luckily) only 12 people were injured with none killed. The youth in question was described by teachers as an "electronics buff and exemplary student," according to The Register.

The lesson? From here on out, Blakeley takes a cab. And he stays the fuck away from our train set.

hehehehehe 12 people were injured doing something similar to what we did

Yeah, fuck authority!

*burns a police station and rocks out*

Hahah, that's what I thought when I saw that post (assuming it was serious, which I'm hoping it wasn't. If it's a joke I missed then it's 4:50am and I've been working all night so shit off).

It's a pretty dumb thing to do though. I didn't find it funny, and it was hardly witty - plus these people would've put a lot of work into setting this stuff up and to do that is just dickish and immature. As someone said one of the comments on the video it'd be like if someone hacked them to make their page blank.

And Inri, I think you missed the point of what Velfarre was getting at.

No, I completely understood what velfarre said, she was comparing something trivial as kids shutting down tvs which might cause some people lose their jobs or something like that to someone else causing a train to derail which could cause massive injuries and death. Because as we all know if you lose all your limbs in a train accident you can get new ones as robot technology is advanced enough to replace them, but!!! if you "lose your job" you will NEVER be able to find one again, it will be worse than dying.

But I'm the closest someone can be to a joke account without being one so what I post here is just random trollings with the intent to troll people right Velfarre? Afterall anything that interferes with the AMERICAN WAY OF LIFE: BUY THINGS!!!!!!!! is childish and shouldn't be done at all since it's a crime against humanity.

^As far as I can see I'm fairly sure the point was more that they are all "kekek we might've inspired a kid to do something really dangerous" as opposed to making a comparison between disrupting a business event and endangering human life (which would be silly, as you're right that the things are incomparable).

I think she was trying to point out how douchey they're being about the whole thing. Which they are.

NOT A FAKEPOST:

i hate ads and advertising and big business for reasons i might add to this post if i feel like it in two minutes, but i am also aware that this is a smaller, simple trade show. therefore, these organizations were probably groups of independent software developers trying to sell their product to distributors or other developers. because of this, it was lame of gizmodo to do as a prank, but it's not that difficult to TURN TVS BACK ON, so whatever.

that having been said, i feel like i need to respond to whatever individual (i don't remember which one of you cunt-babies it was) said something along the lines of "imagine the world without businesses blah blah blah third world etc.. etc..." actually fuck it, i'll find a quote:

I like when people say DOWN WITH BUSINESS but they don't really realize what life would be like for them if no business existed
ie: third world countrys but even worse

yeah, this. this is a steaming pile of stupid, and i had to read it a couple times to make sure that whoever the fuck HANDSOME LAMB is really just did not comprehend what is going on in the world. the anti business attitude stems from the fact that, since before the turn of the 20th century, business has been at the root of class inequality and poverty in america.

because america supposedly does not meddle in the fiscal affairs of its citizens, the distribution of wealth is handled almost exclusively by private sector organizations (i.e. - BIG BUSINESS) it began much earlier, but the whole system of really caught its stride in the late 1880s with the robber barons etc... who, if they had their way, (and they did until the labor movement) would have imposed 14 hour days, no unions etc.

FURTHERMORE (and this is the biggest reason to hate american business) our government is in the shitty state it's in now precisely because of business influence. these organizations have the money to influence legislation and policy in their favor, and so they take advantage of that opportunity. american business is the reason hurricane katrina victims have had their homes forclosed, american business is the reason we have such a horrible illegal immigration issue (because of NAFTA, not simply because they hire illegals) american business is the reason we're at war in the middle east, and american business is the reason that the low income housing on my block was razed last thursday to make room for condominiums.

finally, i just want to add that advertising is horrible, because it's just another method businesses use to trick people into helping them make money, instead of realizing that they are being controlled by the mass media machine.

I have to agree with everything you said, America has been dead for while, I've read so much about this...the America we are in is often called Corprate America. The amount of money they make boggles my mind, like WHY would you need that much money? Its money with no motive.
Hell, some  business write LAWS(that of course favors them) and give it to senetors to get it passed for them. Pay people to turn a blind eye.
Greed is a powerfull tool, to bad people let it corrupt them in everyway.

However, do make the difference between big business and small business, not only that it depends what type of business(in my opinion).
