yeasayer are a 4-piece from the USA. i haven't seen anyone post about them here, but i have a feeling they will be well liked. there's no easy way to describe their music, there's so many influences. they call themselves "middle Eastern-psych-pop-snap-gospel", but it's more a quirky shoegaze indie pop rock gospel sort of feel. they have beautiful vocals (think pure reason revolution) and their music is sort of like anathallo mixed in with animal collective, but... not. i don't know, go listen yourself and make up your own mind. so far they have one album out, called "all hour cymbals".

I'm gonna go and say it first, that song "2080" is pretty cool. Very chill and atmospheric, emphasis clearly being on vocals. I suggest that others (YOU GUYS) listen to the song at the myspace (Dicko's link).

Also why do i think about Jethro Thull when i listen to this song?

MORE songs than just one
heh newbie with myspace... well, this is pretty rad stuff, nothing long or difficult, it's being kept simple.

I listened to one song by them and thought it was pretty cool, but couldn't find any torrents so I forgot about them. I think so anyway, these guys use like worldmusic right? I don't have time to listen to them now but maybe later

I think these are the guys whose work is being compared to Once in a Lifetime by the Talking Heads, which is one of my favorite things

edit: yeah I remember 2080, pretty cool stuff

I listened to it, and it instantly reaffirmed my personal philosophy when it comes to music: Never, ever listen to anything which merits the adjective 'quirky'. Weird? Weird is good. Mainstream? Well, you do find the occasional band that manages the neat trick of being both popular and really good. But quirky... Quirky is stuff that doesn't have the balls to be weird and doesn't have the honesty to be mainstream. This is a perfect example: Peter Gabriel meets Paul Simon meets pretty much every godawful shoegazing band who thought 'ambient' was a compliment instead of a dire insult. It's high-concept, pretentious crap, soft-pop for the new millenium, hacking together the worst elements of a dozen genres and molding them together into one painstakingly-hip, breathtakingly-dull lump.

...Nothing personal or anything... It's just that this band, and their compatriots in New York and Montreal, represent the antithesis of everything I love about music, and I couldn't resist the oppurtunity to rant a little.
Do not even get me fucking started on Vampire Weekend, either. The only way I could aqequately describe my feeling towards them would be to write 'fuck' eight-hundred times on a page and then shit on it. Still, there was a section in Uncut that mentioned them in the same context as these guys, so if you liked this then you might want to check them out.

These guys are pretty great! I've never really heard anything quite like them before, but it is an excellent genre of music. It combines many different elements of music, and comes out with a unique sound. I really enjoy it!

On a side note: Torrent can be found *~_since when was this allowed..._~*

you are my fav poster for this now buttttttttt dont diss gabriel and simon since back in the day they were fuckin giants.

I know you weren't but just saying....

I haven't heard this yet, lemme listen, I just thought that post was awesome.

edit: yeah this is boring although I would compare it to Grateful Dead before Gabriel and Simon. it's like Dead Meadow sans the metal/hard rock part so it's just kind of like some band trying to be old prog.

"2080" has a great shout along bridge, but I haven't really explored much further. I pretty much waited for them to play that song at their show and then went to see Clipse.

i downloaded 2080 as the only song i could find back when they were announced for the roskilde festival 08. i like it a lot, but then again i've never listened to grateful dead, so i'm not jaded but rather revived by their tunes! it reminds me of elliot smith. i can't explain it, but it does.

also, the shins.
