Ugh the Mom Bomb is NOTHING compared to that damn Dark Elf.
How're you supposed to survive Dark Breath? BAM 800HP DAMAGE WOO

There's a faq in gamefaqs explaining how to survive that fight...
What ticks me about this game is that its so difficult right now that you are basically having to find tricks to defeat the bosses, seeing which status they are not immune to... Because if you try to do it like before, you will often get killed in a one hit, all attack...

I mean, I'm fighting Calcobrena/Golbez in Giott's castle and I haven't been reading the faq except when I get stuck against a boss, and damn... if I don't munch just the way they say and get certain abilities here and there (And I think the augment system sucks in that you must give certain augments to certain characters to get other augments that you actually want), the fight is virtually impossible because my best character has 1700 HP and Golbez i doing 1650 per hit on my whole party.

Shell/all, Slow, Libra, Summon, Curaga/all :)
Keep using Libra and Summon and he should fall. I was a bit lucky as he kept casting Osmose and not offensive spells for most of the fight.

You don't need the abilities to beat the game, sometimes they actually make it too easy...

Yeah, although it's kinda annoying to have to check the FAQ for pretty much every boss.

I finally beat the thing though. Firaga + 3xFocus Attack works wonders.

The menus are nowhere near as laggy as FFIII DS. That was such a terrible game. Absolutely shit and devoid of character then FFIV DS comes along and I am completely astounded at how great it is.

It IS better than the original, a bold statement but it really IS.

I have been playing this a good 2 hrs a day for about a week now and I am loving it to bits. 10/10.

I must say the battle with cyber Lugae was simply awesome. You see, in this version he uses an attack which inverts all damage; now healing magic does damage, and all attacks and offensive spells heal (it affects both your party and Lugae). He casts Restore on your whole party dealing damage, but you can easily heal yourself with physical attacks (which often miss).

The best part was when I had Rydia down and he cast Reverse for the second time, making all magic work normally. I double casted Raise and party Curaga with Rose, but before she managed to finish them, Lugae threw another Reverse. The result wasn't pretty :) (I managed to win with 2 characters though)

I beat him by using an elixir on him (hahah what a loser).  I am unsure whether or not I was disappointed that my Phoenix Down missed prior to that.  My only surviving party member was Cecil and he only had 50 HP left!  Actually it's surprising how many boss fights have ended that way for me.

I guess when I get this, I'll be grinding in each new area. Which is OK I guess, if you get that ability swapping early on.
Back on SNES I could never beat the final Elemental fight in the Tower of Zot, so this is one of the few FF's I haven't beaten. Even though it's my favourite.

This game has been a pleasant surprise: but some regular enemies are just stupid.

Case in point: 2x blazes should not kill an overleveled party before its possible to react.

Hint: You're probably not overleveled.

Wonderful contribution.

Now I'm on the moon. Wee for enemies that do way too much damage while paralyzing you at the same time.  I guess its either grind: or do the optional stuff.

Some of the optional stuff is highly useful. Did you get the draw attacks and counter augments? If you put them both on Cecil, the whole party should have a nice time getting through the moon.

Augments are useful stuff.

Oddly enough: cecil has counter... It never works.

I keep getting my ass kicked by the bosses when you return to baron. I am so frustrated! Like Mr Big T at a cosplay convention. OK the simile was NOT required.

So how many had trouble against Scarmiglone, he took me at least 10-15 minutes to beat, damn that counter! Its like Bad Breath... but equally as deadly. X_X

Haha that's the only part so far I've NOT had trouble with. The first fight took about 30 seconds (Cecil attack, Palom Fira, Porom/Tellah Cura on party/enemies switch off). The second one took about a minute. (Tellah Cura on him, Palom/Porom twin attack thing, Cecil Hi-potion whoever got hit).

Right now I'm returning to Baron and it is a pain in the ASS. I spent all my money buying that armor in Mysidia for Cecil. Why is this game so hard? I haven't run away from a battle yet and I'm still lower leveled than I need to be for some reason. I even grinded a little bit. I'm enjoying it but parts are just pissing me off. I think they changed the dungeons by the way nothing is recongnizable to me haha. Since I've been playing it for the past few hours and am getting kind of sick of it I'm gonna take a break and hope when I come back Baigan and Cagnazzo don't beat the shit out of me.

By the way guys... Get a ribbon for Cecil, it helps a lot... The toad witches in the Passage of the Eidolons drop them.

Well, counter only works when Cecil is physically attacked. Also, be sure to have Attack as his first ability if you want him to counter with Attack. You can use other things to counter with, too, since counter negates spellcasting time. I'm thinking about putting counter on Rydia for the second playthrough, just to see her counter some puny attack with Bahamut.

And I hate hunting for rare items like Ribbons. I went hunting for Rainbow Pudding and it took days.

ugh i've been playing this game too much. i'm taking a break

That's where I am now and this place is the biggest piece of bullshit EVER. Every REGULAR battle is taking me 5+ minutes and I really feel like everyone's at a decent level. (Cecil 25, Yang 27, Cid 24, Tellah 28) I do not look forward to the Tower of Zot.

I picked it up, but haven't spent much time with it yet.

So how hard is Valvalius (Fiend of Air) in the tower of Zot that fight always gave me trouble.

So uh, yeah, before this game it has been a while since I touched FFIV, now unless they changed something I must be missing something (immediately following Tower of Zot btw):
