Anyone have any success on Virtual PC 7 for Mac? I don't have a Windows Box :-(

Yeah the game refuses to run under WINE in ubuntu. It shows the Direct x 10 screen but then crashes when it tries to change the screen resolution

hey i had no idea this game got so much publicity that's pretty cool

so yeah gonna finally try it out, the 1st download link doesnt work and someone said something about 2nd being corrutped and GZ has posted v1.09 so which one to get??

I don't think you understand how parody works.

You're not infringing on anything, because parody protects you from everything. You "own" the game, since you made it. It's 100% parody which is 100% protected under U.S. law and there is no reason why you can't submit that game at all really.

I think it becomes different when you start making money off it or start using it for a commercial purpose. I am fairly sure, I mean there are laws for things like likeness rights where people sue for things like someone using an image that BARES A RESEMBLANCE let alone Barkley here that doesn't just bare a resemblance but actually uses his name and image. At the moment I don't think there's any danger because it's not being used for a commercial purpose or anything, but the minute it makes any money I think that's when it starts becoming a possibility that law could become involved. I mean, at the moment you are in a position where you could probably approach cbarkley's agent and say, "LOOK I HAVE MADE THIS FAN GAME, CAN I PIMP IT OUT?" they probably get that shit all the time and when you back it up with the amazing reviews that are plastered all over the internet and the fanbase of people saying "THIS IS THE SHIT" it good be a great pr move for them.

But yeah who the fuck knows, definitely none of us?

Let's take a look at a very limited example involving fair use here: the main battle sprites you used. One of them is Charles Barkley, I assume, pulled from Shut Up and Jam! You are not using the sprite to make a basketball game, so it does not diminish that game/series' market. I'm no lawyer, but the game is parody enough in that you are using it to comment on another person's work. Namely Shut Up and Jam! and Space Jam, among other things.

Where you could run into problems is if someone rules that for parody purposes, you would have to make your own Charles Barkley battle sprite in order for the game to be legal, because the IP of that sprite is held by Acclaim and you are not using the sprite explicitly to comment on the borrowed work, I guess? This is why I'm not going into law. :/

Also there's Libel because I'm sure Barkley doesn't want people associating him with millions of deaths (via chaos dunk) and Michael Jordon's character is... far from flattering. Libel isn't always protected by parody either.

EDIT: But this game is CANON and so libel laws shouldn't apply here, because it's strictly against things are untrue... and this game is true.

The only "real" copyright issue that would really be worth going after would be the unoriginal graphics and sound; if you replaced those, I am pretty sure you would be mostly safe from threats of copyright violation due to fair use.

I'm a bit late, but I want to pay my respects for such an awesome creation. I've obviously heard about this game for a long time, but didn't really fancy playing it. Then, yesterday I just decided to download it. This game....this game....seriously guys there's something magical about this game. I've not completed it yet, but you should definitley make a follow up to it.
