I dont remember seeing much photos of people with memes all over them, mostly people with masks and with signs that said "XENUTV" or "GOOGLE LISA MCPHEARSON". The only particularly nerdy element you could often see was "anonymous" images, and most people out there dont know about them and wont make a connection. I had never even heard of "anonymous" before looking into all of this.
As I said, I dont know if this will get anywhere, but I am hoping it will. Maybe im too optimistic? You really think there is absolutely no way this will get anywhere?
I heard pretty crazy numbers about the amount of people that were out there on february 10th, over 9000. But im more than a little skeptical on this, cities that reported having 200+ picketers had photos that rarely showed anything close to this. I mean if there really was 300 picketeers on location, youd think people would make huge paronamic pictures at one point, like, proud that so many showed up.
okay maybe you didn't get it; a serious protest against an organization involves several layers, including political action, widespread NON-internet support, and most of all, real supporters with real faces, not kids wearing V For Vendetta masks. this won't work at all because there's no one who seems to know a thing about basic organization running it. do you know what yelling at a building does? absolutely nothing.
it's the exact same thing as the Ron Paul movement; false exaggerations of numbers made it seem like the movement was even competent at what it was doing, when in reality the ability to launch a blimp or get some dorks to chase Sean Hannity means absolutely nothing as far as a real movement is concerned. the number of libertarians did not go up because of the Ron Paul movement; they
stayed the same, just became louder.
similarly, scientology doesn't care too much about if 4chan is against them, because they aren't targetting 4chan's audience, who would have seen the South Park ep a thousand times and won't ever be scientologists. and campaigning against an organization by wearing pop culture masks and yelling internet shit (one protest video features them singing Rick Astley loudly enmasse) won't do anything of real value. for one day 4chan maybe dissuaded a few people from walking into a building.
this isn't a protest, it's a joke.
This was not the first protest and it won't be the last. They are getting more support by doing these protest and it has only been A MONTH since it started. It takes time for this to spread, hell I only heard about this yesterday.
it will not grow to anything meaningful because someone who knew what they were doing would have never endorsed such a worthless protest to begin with. sorry.
Like I said before, I don't know that much about scientology, and do think it's worthless. Also when I say being outspoken, I didn't mean not doing anything. When I think of people being outspoken I think of people who just constantly go around pushing* their opinions on other people. Like if I were to go posting SCIENTOLOGY IS SHIT BAN SCIENTOLOGY in every post just because I don't like it. That's annoying.
*Attempting to bully people into feeling the same way as them, not like... just expressing it in a well thought out way so other people will hopefully see what they are saying and agree,
posts? what? we're talking about political protest, not annoying kids in class by being an aspie.
