You know it's got to be a bad design decision for updating an unlock system, if it seems better to do away with the items already unlocked and start again from scratch. (Really, I would rather have everyone lose their items and start again than unlock a second anything. It pisses me off so much.)

Trading is absolutley stupid even to try to strive for. Especially when it's easy enough for the system to know exactly which items you already unlocked. Why can't they simply give you a random item you haven't already unlocked? Exactly what makes that idea so unfesable or unappealing that it is marked as "inferior" to absolute randomness?

Is the unlocking still acheivement based? Who do I e-mail if I've gotten every single acheivement and I'm still missing that other spy watch?

Yeah the unlock system blows but I will stop caring about it the moment I have a bow.

Also I'm not sure if I'd say the Dead Ringer is good or not, but killing with it is really satisfying.

3 blutsaugers, 2 FaNs and 1 axetinguisher. You know, they knew before they released this that you can't trade yet so why would you allow duplicates at this point. All they do is they hinder you from ever getting the new content which really blows because I play spy a LOT and all the new shit for snipers offers more interesting gameplay that isn't just point n click borefest.

I've gotten ONE KGB, that's IT. I see eveyrone else on the server I play on unlocking a ton of nice stuff, I get one crappy weapon I have already in two days.

Well I got the bow just now by just joining a server so yeah, just prooves all you can do is join a game and then it's out of your hands.

About the bow, it is ridiculous. Like, really. It is a bit hard to aim at first because you need to predict their movements a bit but holy shit, it just rapes everything. Theres a shortage of arrows though, guess that's there to balance it.

Earlier today, I said "I've been playing for 8 hours and I haven't gotten a single new weapon" and probably one second later it gave me the Axtinguisher.  I already had it but it was an interesting coincidence anyway.

This is what they do on wow, once so much of the playing populace has 'earned' they new gear they effectively give it away to let new players catch up easier since there's already a skill/knowledge gap. Better players having better weapons doesn't help new people get into the game so this probably keeps more people playing

i was gonna play a bunch of tf2 this weekend but then i heard about this retarded luck system for weapons and it completely turned me off playing. it wouldn't be so terrible if you couldn't get duplicates, like who could possibly think that's a good idea??

Yes, except that the unlock weapons are not better or worse than the originals in many cases. Valve took special care to make the new weapons DIFFERENT, not outright better... With exception to the medic items "Ubersaw" and "Blutsauger", but honestly, those arent overwhelming advantages that kill new player morale.

You cannot stop this, no matter what solution they put forward. Do a server search for "achievements_idle" and marvel at how many people are cramming themselves into these servers to farm unlocks.

Since you're familiar with WoW, I'll just say that they've successfully ported the FUN and EXCITEMENT of Alterac Valley into team fortress 2. Now you have a bunch of cloaked, macroing idiots standing on top of ammo cabinets on live servers instead of class inflation. Not a very good FIX, is it?

Item trading is equally pointless. I dont want to "EARN" crap, I don't want to "TRADE" with people, I just want to play a damn FPS. Keep this MMORPG crap out of the FPS genre. Just give everyone the ability to customize their loadout and just run with that. People should play for fun, not for unlocks.

The idling isn't too bad on live servers from what I've see, but then again most server I've been on have been kicking idlers.  On that note I think the weapons should just be given out each update right away.

Also the best thing about the Dead Ringer: Surviving being hit by trains.

Sounds pretty lame, I haven't played tf2 in over a year tho so I dunno how it is. I agree though, I always thought the new items should just be available to everyone and let the achievements be just for bragging like in every other game that has them

Yes well, believe it or not; "career" spies and snipers want to try out their classes new weapons, but after playing the game often for the few days it's been out, all they've been getting are unlocks they have already; so instead of leaving it to chance - they leave the game on overnight so they can try the stuff out. I dont even play Sniper or Spy, but this measure is really, really half assed, and unfair to newer players who didnt get to easily farm their weapons on achievement servers for previously updated classes.

it's even more unfair to regular players who already had all or most unlocks anyway. Just a big fuck you getting 10 backburners in a row.

This may be a n00b question, but is there a way to find servers from/near Toronto? I wouldn't mind playing with locals.

not really, but if you filter them by ping chances are the servers ~25 ping are gonna be pretty local

Yeah, the annoying thing is that I've actively played for about 18 hours today and was in an idle server while I took a nap and I've only gotten one thing I didn't have last night and a lot of duplicates.
