Watch other people playing. Find a class or classes you like playing, and watch other people play them while you're waiting to respawn. Maybe even go spectate and find someone really good and watch how they play for a while. You can only learn so much from guides (though I still suggest you read one or two to get a better start).

Download some demos from cadred.org for learning how to play and maybe read a breakdown of each class and their strengths. Overall just spend time playing and find out what maps and game modes you enjoy the most. People might call you a scrub but they were there once too.

Play spy if you like sneaking around like Metal Gear
Play scout if you like quake or have good twitch reflexes
Play soldier if you like slower moving FPS games while packing firepower
Play sniper if you like point and click adventure games
Play medic if you like to be the "healz plz" person
Play engineer if you like staring at your screen doing nothing
Play demoman if you like being tricky and laying traps
Play heavy if you like being the tank
Play pyro if you want to be useless everywhere except goldrush and dustbowl

Pyro's my most used class. (and I really am the type of person who doesn't care if he's being useless whenever I play!)

I usually exclusively play on Atlantis (74.86.154.2:27015) but sometimes on rare occasion you can find me on The Angry Asylum (72.37.221.172:27016).

Atlantis has an automated kick system if you're not a verified community member though and I don't have any invites at the moment

Bumpity bump.

They're coming out with the scout update soon apparently (next week?) and until then we get 2 updates, one that fixes bugs and exploits and other that has something to do how you organize your unlockables.

This is promised to happen in the span of week or two.

Hey since some of you people frequently visit SA where there were previously some leaked info on the other updates can you tell if that has also happened now?

I just want this update out already and please give us some more alpine maps.

Ugh this game is pretty bad which is a shame because it had so much potential. The class updates are shitty considering you have to wait months for 3 new weapons and then spend a week getting all the pointless achievements so you can actually use them (unless they changed this).

I'm not gonna lie I do enjoy it in small doses, it can be really fun when you find a good server but the classes get really stale after awhile and it just feels like they could of done more to make the game a little more unique.

Man i dont know where you guys get your perception of BANG FOR BUCK. Like TF2 released at 20 bucks or maybe 30 but it was fun for me for MONTHS after release and I still play it sometimes. There isn't any other multiplayer FPS quite like it. There are other team focused and class based FPS games to be sure, but none marry the graphical style and broad selection of playstyles like TF2 does.

Yes it gets old after awhile but many games do! I can't think of a single game that I can play for a month straight and not get tired of it, and I played TF2 for like 2 months straight before getting turned off for awhile. I still go back and play it quite a bit when these content updates come out. And that's ANOTHER thing, for a game that was value priced to begin with, I am actually impressed with the level of post release support the game has seen. It takes them a long god damn time but these are FREE updates which add new maps, weapons, etc. The only genre that sees this sort of stuff is MMORPGs usually and they charge you a monthly fee. I guess Galactic Civilizations 2 saw quite a bit of free content patching, but even then those patches were more focused on balancing and bug fixing than adding new features.

also also just to nitpick but saying you have to get the "pointless" achievements to get the new weapons doesn't make much sense? I mean, the achievements aren't really pointless if their point is to unlock new weapons??? I know that this wasn;t really your point, you probably meant that each individual achievement just doesn't really mean anything, it's just SORT OF bragging rights I guess. I can see this being contentious though, it's almost a GRIND which isn't something people would like to see in a FPS.

I don't even play TF2 much these days but I still feel like I should point this stuff out when I see GRIPIN about how slow Valve is with the updates

I feel the same way. Its not like I hate or got tired of TF2, I just stopped playing as much for some reason. But when I do play I wonder "Why the hell don't I play this more again?"
