Yeah but the PS3 focused so hard on their Blu-Ray and matching M$ online, they forgot to make good games.
I'm wondering, though, how can the PS3 have a Blu-Ray player, and standalone players cost more? It really makes no logical sense.
formerly known as isithardcor3

this is a OLD banner. the game itself is about 60% done.

I forgot by how much it was... but from what I remember about the pre-PS3 hype... they lose about $200 per unit.

Yes, it's such a shame that Sony didn't make good games for the PS3, instead concentrating on their blu-ray shit. I mean jesus sony... the worlds most respected games developer, how can they make bad games? but they did. Sony made the games for the ps3 and they all sucked.
thanks Sony, for making such terrible games.

Actually, how many good games did Sony actually make.

As in how many were truly 1st and 2nd party titles, not jut published by them.
I can't think of any really.

Also I'd have to say Nintendo is the most respected game developer.
Most of their game are pure fun and awesome.

Actually, apparently Sony stated that they are finally starting to make money with PS3. If I remember correctly, it costs them about $400 to make a new 40GB model. I'm not sure if they are already making profit with each console or if they will start making profit once the production values will drop even more though. Still, Sony has lost over 2 billion dollars because of PS3 so it needs to sell really well if Sony wants to actually make profit in the end. I think it's going to start selling a lot more sooner or later though, the price has gone down and probably will go down more, blu-ray won against hd-dvd plus it will finally start to get really good games this year, MGS4, LittleBigPlanet and GTA4 for example, possibly FF13 in Japan. I got my PS3 today and while it doesn't have a single really fantastic game so far, it got enough good games so that I finally wanted to buy one, especially with MGS4 coming out soon. And the new 40GB version was cheaper (still expensive though) so that helped.

Also, about what bazookatooth said, I might be wrong but didn't blu-ray finally win because Warner decided to go with it? I mean, the whole race was pretty much decided on who the movie companies will support, wasn't it? I'm sure there was more to the whole thing but I doubt Japanese market had that much of an impact to the final result. I might be completely wrong here since I'm not really that well informed about the whole format wars thing. I don't really care.

Well apparently PS3 has been selling better than the 360 for the past few months in North America, and it has been outselling the 360 outside of America for quite some time as well.

I still won't pick one up until I know that the list of games everyone is throwing around is actually a list of good games.

i always figured blu-ray would win. its a superior format and had sony's backing from the beginning and later on warner brothers backed it too.  im glad it "won" even though it seemed to me there was no real contest.  im tired of acronyms everywhere and only making dvd as a longer acronym is absolutely stupid. hd-dvd. come on.  sony already had a backwards compatable ps3, so im sure "they" will make a backwards compatable blu-ray player that plays dvd's as well.

also, i dont play video games anymore... but am i just stupid or something or does sony really make games for the ps3? i dont think they are to blame. not to mention, there are good games coming out for the ps3 - metal gear solid 4 ALONE is a reason to buy. not to mention, its been out for a year... how long did it take xbox 360 to make GOOD games? halo 3 bombed out - no one i know even plays it anymore. it might have sold like hot cakes but everyone is tired of it. halo 3 also took a year after xbox 360's release. oh and gta4 is coming out soon too. it takes awhile for games to come out.

but what the fuck do i know.

Normal DVD's are still effective to me. That and pirate movies yeah. I won't bother witha Hi-Def player until I have a Hi-Def TV, and that will take a while.

"metal gear solid 4 ALONE is a reason to buy."

Yes. This game is definitely worth several hundred dollars.

No game is worth getting a console for, even me, who is a hardcore Metal Gear fan, won't buy MGS4 until the majority of the 08 PS3 line out comes out.

Pretty much right at launch.
Project Gotham Racing 3 and Oblivion were two good games.

Are you trolling?
I was under the impression that it is being played by tons of people.

Do you guys seriously have to turn this topic into a console/game/fanboy flame war about what console is the better and what games are the better of each other?

I still think the main reason Blu-ray won out is because of certain movie companies choosing Blu-ray over HD-DVD. BTW does anyone know if there are still going to be movies made for the HD-DVD player that would merit the continued sale of them?

HD-DVD players will likely take a hit but while everyone thinks this will hurt Microsoft and what they were pushing for on the Xbox, Microsoft actually secured HD in downloadable format.  All videos you download to the Xbox 360 or through any future player that has a hard drive (there's a couple out now) has the same Hi-def options available to blu-ray.  I think this was a pretty smart idea because virtual downloads are cheaper and they're portable through your hardrive.  Blu-ray pretty much killed cool packaging so there's little point in buying a blu-ray movie other than to have the disc and with harddrives being as large as they are now it's better to just download the shit for a small price than buy the physical copy.
