So yeah, how do you feel about teachers playing "Suicidal" Music during class? Should teachers be able to play music that "provokes" thoughts of murder and suicide?
you will fail

haha, those parents are doing some bad jobs if they are afraid music a TEACHER listens to will cause them to kill themselves

if anything kids would do the opposite of what a teacher's fave band says.........

nah but really this is kinda dumb. i dont agree with the parents, but parents try to protect their kids from everything nowadays so i dont find this surprising or something.

id like to know what other songs he plays, though. or.. she, whatever.

“When they’re exposed to something like this, (the children) have mixed feelings about what’s wrong and what’s right,” said another parent."

This is exactly why such music should be banned from society. All every child needs is a good, strong Christian moral backbone.

WIKIPEDIA:

Quote
Lyrics such as "Would you die tonight for love?" have contributed to the misconception that the song is about suicide, which Valo denies, claiming the lyrics refer to giving things up for the sake of love. "It's not about suicide, that song. It's about giving it all away," Valo told the magazine Modern Fix.

Why was she playing that in class in the first place?  Aren't schools supposed to be a place to learn?

The only time my teachers played music was from the radio and classical orchestrated shit with no lyrics.

Oh God, don't turn this into some kind of conservative bashing point because you're heading down the path of stupidity.  This has nothing to do with what music they SHOULD be listening to, this has to do with the fact that public schools (note how I say PUBLIC because private schools are different) are supposed to be places where any child can learn in a non subjective manner.  Everyone is supposed to learn on an equal level.  This is why the government correctly seperated church from teaching institutions.  If you want your kid to learn in a biased environment, they have private schools for that.

no, it isnt. they are complaining about WHAT songs they are listening to. i agree with you that music has very little place in school at all, but that isnt what these parents were complaining about.

I'm pretty sure this was sarcasm???

Teacher shouldn't be playing songs in class unless they are part of the learning material, but the parents are still oversensitive for thinking it'll affect their kids.

I don't think music with violent themes really could cause suicide. For a long time, parents have tried to blame art forms instead of pre-existing psychological problems not attended to.
But the fact that the teacher played it in class? I don't know...It's weird, it's unprofessional, but the school shouldn't have gone to this extent.

Never mind the suicidal messages, that teacher should be shot dead just for having such shitty taste in music.

I took it as a crack against parents who don't want their kids exposed to questionable material hence the "EVERY CHRISTIAN FAMILY MUST LISTEN TO WHOLESOME CHRISTIAN SHIT HOHO."  There's so much ignorant moral bashing on the internet that  it's hard to tell the difference between a LOL JOKE and a FUCKING FAGS DONT CENSOR MEEEEEE!!111 (actual comment from irc debate)

The whole "suicide" thing is over-the-top (because song isn't about suicide DONT ASK ME HOW I KNOW THIS I DONT LISTEN TO THIS SHIT HONEST) but can you fault the parents for actually taking responsibility and the initiative to protect their children FOR ONCE?  It's a shame the teacher was sacked but they should be teaching not goofing off and handing mix discs to 10 year olds.

Music has no place in our schools!......well, except for Music class.

My teacher played the Pixies for us in Gr. 9 social studies.

yeah i think the bigger question here is why she is downloading and handing out music to students. i think she should be in trouble for dicking around instead of teaching, not because the music was "suicidal".

I can't really think of a good reason for a sixth grade class needing to be listening to random rock music for any academic purposes (regardless of whether or not it was music with lyrics that could be concluded to be "suicidial" or not)

Kinda funny how HIM is "suicidal music" hahahaha. I'm really curious about other songs the teacher made them listen. It's also funny that HIM's lyics are about love, not death and suicide although Ville has put some overtones and shit. Meh they still suck.

I was expecting some Xasthur or something!

on a somewhat unrelated topic, a teacher at another high school where i live (and a few of my friends go) is also the swim coach, and she decided to send naked pics of herself through cell phone to some of the students she knew.
