Iron Chef GW: Round 2 - a Honore di Ceci

The next round of GW Iron Chef focuses on the Ceci Bean. You may know it as a Garbanzo bean or a Chickpea.. I guess it depends on where you're from and how weird your family is. They're a veritable staple in a number of different mediterranean cuisines ranging from southern Italian to Greek, Lebanese and Turkish. Regardless, this is one of my favorite vegetables... and in my opinion one of the most versatile beans out there. You can use the bean in soups, bakes, salads, stir fries... and you can eat em raw, you can mash em up and use the resulting paste in just about anything or just eat it by itself (add some tahini, lemon juice, S&P and you've got hummus). Granted I know this is not a common ingredient for many people, but as a hint for you guys... you can substitute this ingredient in any recipe or idea calling for any other kind of bean. So think beans, but Chickpeas. They are wonderful and there is so much that can be done with them (though I admit... dessert is gonna be interesting). That said, the rules only stipulate 3 courses, this may be an event in which doing a dessert would be too difficult (or impossible who knows.. I have some ideas heheh) and you wont be penalized for not doing one as long as you have 3 courses total.

Rules
 • Three dishes minimum. Think Appetizer, Main, and Dessert (But it doesn't matter really .. it just has to flow!). Drinks do not count as a dish, but you can make them
 • As stated, each dish must feature the main ingredient (Ceci Bean) in a primary role
 • Entries must be posted by March 10th. This gives you ample time to think of ideas and actually cook the meal

Posting Format
When you are done your dish, post your topic in the General forum. Each topic needs the following:
- An outline of all the ingredients you used for each meal (Don't need measurements, just what was used) .. A picture of all the ingredients helps put it into perspective
- A play by play of each dish you made for the meal. You can go into a lot of detail, step by step or be more minimal. Think of what the people will like
- Once the topic is posted, post a link to it on this thread

Voting

Voting will be done by the general populous in a poll thread once all the entires are in

Prizes

- GLORY!
- To start, Bart will offer one free premium membership for you or a friend.
- The winner will be able to select the next rounds ingredient and timeline

Today is Monday February 25, you have until 12:01 a.m. EST Monday, March 10 to post your entries. Good luck!

Man, has no one had them in any other form than like... raw? They are so buttery and delicious when you bake them.

anyhow maybe I should have gone with my other choice. there is still time.

They're not a vegetable lol they are a legume.

Also, I would participate in this but in order for me to use these raw I would have to sprout them and that takes a day at the least just for that.  And the only thing I could think of making would be raw sprouted hummus and a wrap of some sort.

Also why the hate?  They are really good!

How the hell do you people not know what chickpeas are? Man, you guys must not be very adventurous at all with your meals.

I'm going to try to get involved in this one. Chickpeas...so many possibilities! I already have an appetizer and main course in my mind. As for a desert, well, that could be tough, but I have a few half-baked ideas that might work.

i know what they are, and i'm surprised you chose them as the ingredient.  i don't HATE them, but i've always found them kind of bland and never thought they added much of anything to what they've been put in (usually soup).  also, they're kind of chalky, but i guess that doesn't really matter if you grind them up, and it might change if you do anything other than boil them.

and are legumes not vegetables

btw best option for everyone is to buy them canned, that way you dont have to deal with the soaking process that is so annoying

also the deadline is march 10 (its in big font at the bottom)... I dont know where you saw feb 3 at lol

Nope, to my knowledge I've never tasted or even seen them except maybe while randomly walking around the grocery store. I guess nobody around me cooks with them.
