What's a fret?





Nah just kidding! But seriously, I learned artificial harmonics tonight. And it sounds exactly like the natural harmonics, in that its a high pitched chiming sound. Now on any of the videos I've seen. The Artificial Harmonics always had a squeal to them. How do I make the squeal. I was told I gotta vibrato the harmonic. But I cannot seem to properly vibrato either. I cant find the ideal position for my Gain. It either the vibrato doesnt really register, or it sounds like I am tapping the note over and over instead of bending.
This is my first guitar, not that it should matter in helping with an answer I got a Jackson SR20 Dinky, I believe that is the correct model number. It's definitely a Jackson Dinky. Also got a Vox Metal, headphone amp. It does the job since I'm not in a band. Anyways thanks for the help in advance.

use a lot of distortion, use the neck pickup/humbucker, and trying using either the whammy bar (if you have one) or bend the string behind the neck to make it "squeal" more

I have a whammy bar so I could give that a shot. In the one video I watched. I swear he said use the bridge pickup, which is where my only humbucker is located. It sounded logical to me, get a better signal. But I could try using the neck pickup.

Yes use the bridge, on some guitars some harmonics are just ignored by the neck pickup due to it's position

Oh, ok. But yeah I still need to learn to properly set up the sound for my guitar. As i said i cant rig the tone/gain/volume, so I can do vibratos or hammer downs. If i do a hammer down the sound significantly dampens, and if i try a vibrato, than either you dont hear it or it sounds like im tapping the note repeatedly.

It sounds like you need to strengthen your fingers. The harder you hammer on the fret, the clearer the sound is. As for vibrato, the same thing goes. Just .. strengthen your fingers.

Actually, when I try acoustically, I can hear it fine. Just when I got my amp goin with it. Might just be the technique I lack. I guess I just need to start hammering down harder, maybe thats the trick.
