Man, the Ice Climbers are so much better. Their dair is like Toon Link's or G&W's, and their meteor is a lot more effective (I think).

I was trying out With Anyone, and I saw a lot of Ikes and Toon Links. I hope this isn't a foreshadowing of a time when only top tiers are used in With Anyone...

Well, Toon Link is good but most people don't use him effectively at all and play him as a faster Link while he's actually a shorter, projectile-enabled Marth.

And Ike is fucking awful.

If people only used Falco/Marth/Wolf in With Anyone then yeah that would be pretty gay but hey guess what the average Nintendo users thinks guns is stupid and prefers HUGE SWORDS and FIGHTING FOR FRIENDS as well as circle jerking to the worst action adventure game series in history.

What.

Anyway really? I know he's got a wop type thing with his bair, but I never saw him as a Marth-type character. I like Ike (heh) but sometimes his slowness is aggravating. He's one of like two slow characters I'm able to play as effectively, though, so... (The other being DeDeDe. Bowser is better with his Side-B, and Ganon's okay, but goddamnit DK I hate 9/10 of your moves.)

I think Raziel meant Toon Link was a Marth-type character.  I don't really get why, though...then again, I haven't gotten around to practicing with Toon Link yet, either.

Ike isn't all that bad.  He's slow and hard to land attacks with, but that's okay because he doesn't need to land that many attacks to utterly destroy somebody.  His back-air is his fastest move that I can find, and it works really well as a short hop attack, so at least he has that much going for him.

Oh, and one thing about With Anyone, whenever you find another person to play against, it creates a group with them and you continue fighting that same person until you drop out of the group.  So, if you saw a lot of the same character being used, then it might've just been the same guy over and over.  But I don't know for sure b/c I only brawl friends anymore (With Anyone sucks!).

Yup, that's what I was responding to.

Also yeah, I know, but I was facing like only top tiers most of the time, although the players were pretty inexperienced.

Ike kind of scares me to be honest.  I usually don't do well against Ike players.  The thing is... you can usually dodge that forward smash pretty easily... but every now and then it catches you.  And when it does... it's all over.  Seriously.  It's just sick and wrong... that thing K.O.s at under 50%.

...speaking of ridiculously strong moves though, Zelda has them... I've been practicing the switching between Sheik and Zelda more, and though I still mostly use Sheik, it can be tempting to switch to Zelda sometimes... her aerials are ridiculous when you hit with the sweet-spot!  And Din's Fire is a cool projectile.

I'm very happy that Din's fire really has great potential now, especially in 4 player free-for-all matches. Most players have no choice but to dodge it, however against a decent Ness (or even Lucas) player it's usefulness is more limited to juggling perhaps?

ps because I share out my wii to the entire dorm Ike is vastly the most highly played by about 4000 KO's  :fogetcry:

Yes man! My brother mained Zelda and he killed me most of the time by spamming Din's Fire and her sick Up Smash and fair/bair sweetspots. However, I started using my Ness (he's got a full body shield and more range on smashes, which are better against Zelda) and he never beat me. Like, he'd reflexively use Din's Fire and he'd heal me like 20%. It was great.

I just got the game this weekend, so I'm playing through it now. I can't seem to get on the internet yet because the Wii seems to hate connecting. Codes soon to come.

Another question for those in the know:  What moves can punish edgehoggers?

All I've noticed so far is Captain Falcon's Up+B.  I learned that one the hard way!  I'm guessing that also means Ganondorf's Up+B does the same thing.... any others?

Ike's up B. Whenever I knock Ike off the edge, I give him plenty of room to come back.

Yeah... when I first got the game, I thought Ike sucked at recovering, but now I realize his recovery is actually annoyingly good when used right.

Once he starts up Aether, you pretty much can't edgeguard him... he's got infinite knockback resistance during the animation, and if you even get near him while it's happening, you'll probably just get nailed by his sword.

His horizontal recovery is easier to counter though... so I guess it's better to knock him up and off.  And if you can manage to knock him far away from the stage AND below it, he's pretty much screwed.  But this, I've found, is difficult.

Anyone else realize Olimar's down-B gives him super armor? Like Ike's up-B? And unlike Ike, he can do it very repetitively?

Yeah, it's awesome. I gave a level 9 Mario a final smash, and I repeatedly down-B'd throughout the blast. I didn't move an inch and only gained 10%. I also lived until like 300% because Mario's smashes wouldn't move me. Awesome stuff.

Awesome, and here I thought it was a worthless move. Olimar just got a whole lot better (which is crazy considering how good he already is without this effect).

I'm not entirely sure where I should post this so I'll just do it in both topics.

The tournament is finished! I have recorded the finals, which is divided into 5 parts:
