i'm not sure if this movie ha been brought up or not but i couldn't finad anything so here goes.
i cought wind of this movie a while ago, was reliesed in 2006 in japan, produced by Gonzo.

i was pleasantly surprised by it. its quite a decent little film. i was wondering if anyone had seen it, and what your thoughts were about it.

if you havn't seen it... do so. its decent... and well animated

I find it funny how all these American movies that are already /everywhere/ in the media have this huge write-up in the topic and then someone makes a topic about some obscure Japanese film and just expects people to know what they're talking about

Edit: Movie looks interesting but really in all honesty it only seems visually stimulating so post some screens man

the storyline sounds like every other anime ever

Edit: Actually the story sounds pretty hardcore it's like anime people versus futuristic ENTS as far as I can tell

i could only find a few screen shots but the story is pretty decent.
its based some time in the future and runs along a similar line to nausacca of the Vally of the wind, the whole save the planet type of thing its almost green peace versus industry. without the petty bickering and more about kicking the Sh*t out of each other with huge mecha and trees who grant people power

if your not accustom to Aime then i guess the whole thing could be a bit hard to get your head around.

on the other hand if you are into Aime i suggest you give it a look, my review would not do it justice.

No seriously I think the movie is really really eye candy (if that second screen isn't some famous painting for the background that's pretty great) but I think anime people should outsource the story to like... people outside of anime. Or adapt a book like movie people do (manga does not count as book)

so obviously I'm biased don't mind me

Edit: They should like, adapt a Takashi Murakami book or something just to see if it's awesome or not as some artsier kind of anime

Edit: Man even if they did do that if the symbolism was as blunt as "forces of nature as giant tree mecha" it would be like that crappy new version of Romeo and Juliet where they had a gun but it was called SWORD

I dunno, the movie was pretty good when I saw it some time last year. Looked fucking beautiful too. I wouldn't call it a masterpiece, and the final act was a little contrived, but overall, yeah. Pretty god damn spiffy.

ha ha funny you should mention this, i was browsing www.watch-movies.net and happened to randomly click on this and start watching. I thought it was pretty good. once i finished watching, i had a startling realization on how similar to Laputa story line wise this is.
I mean both were about a girl with a necklace that could bring back a lost civilization, infact, both even had really big guns, only difference was that Laputa floated, giant volcano walked.
watch both and you'll understand what i meant by how similar they are, but to be honest Laputa is better.

I remember seeing this a while ago, in Anime Club. The animation is indeed great, although, at times, the plot really left much to be desired. And the Japanese voice acting at certain intervals - ugh.

Props to the movie for not being like every other anime, though. Even though the plot was a bit contrived and pretty illogical at times, the presentation and pacing was pretty damn good - almost on the level of Miyazaki's works. It's nice to see that most anime movies, at the very least, haven't fallen into the same generic-shounen-fanservice-pointless-battle-cutsy-random-romance crap that many series nowadays are falling into.
