I'm sorry if someone already had this issue and it's been discussed in SSBB topic (not readin thro that all)

Thing is, I got my Wii freeloader yesterday and Super Smash Brothers Brawl today, and since the colors were black/white with the scart cable, I went and bought an official RGB cable for Wii only to discover that the colors aren't in black and white, but in red, and I think there's some green too but it's mostly redish. Colors work properly with PAL Wii games and PAL/NTSC Cube games so I thought maybe it's an issue with my TV because it's pretty old.

So I tried Wii with RGB cable on another tv which is my living room and it had the same problem. NTSC PS/PS2/Cube games have worked perfectly on both of these televisions before and as far as I know, they are both 60hz compatible so I really have no clue what's wrong here. I would suspect that the RGB cable is faulty but it displays colors correctly in PAL games and all Cube games so I don't think that can be true either.

Another funny thing is the colors in SSBB are correct with SCART cable in the living room tv (so no black & white with that one), but that hardly makes me happy because I can't really play in my living room much and I want to use RGB cable for better quality anyway.

Does anyone know what is causing this or what could fix this problem? :(

I have come to the conclusion that I'm the only person on the internet to have this problem because I have been asking this in a few places plus trying to find more about it and nothing.

:(

Man, as a person who works on TVs for a living I'm kind of stumped.  I may need some more info on your TV's.  You said your living room tv works, so what kind of TV are both of them?  Cathode?  LCD?  Plasma?  A lot of newer TV's have a universal switcher built into the tuner that changes the refresh rates and color signals depending if it's NSTC or PAL (this could be the case).  If your bedroom TV or whatever is real old or it's a CRT tv then it most likely won't work.

Note, SCART works on newer one, not RGB.

Neither of them are LCD or Plasma but it's just weird that so far every NTSC game has worked like a dream and I'm only getting this problem with SSBB. It might be the game, or it could be all Wii NTSC games but since I don't have any other NTSC game for Wii, I can't confirm that. I suppose nothing can fix this though, and it's a shame. rami and I will probably just buy a new television since our old one is old and pretty shit too.

This could be relevant.

From wiki:

Many newer Video Cassette recorders sold in Europe can play back NTSC tapes/discs. When operating in this mode most of them don't output a true (625/25) PAL signal but rather a hybrid of PAL and NTSC known as "PAL 60" (or "pseudo PAL") with "60" standing for 60Hz, instead of 50Hz. Some video game consoles also output a signal in this mode. Most newer television sets can display such a signal correctly but some will only do so (if at all) in black and white and/or with flickering/foldover at the bottom of the picture, or picture rolling (it can be noted, however, that many analogue-era TV sets can receive the picture by means of adjusting the V-Hold and V-Height knobs — assuming they have them).

Beyond that I know nothing of PAL, and when I looked up what SCART was it was something I had never seen before nor knew existed.

Edit:
Hate to say it but shouldn't this be in HW&SW?

Well, the problem turned out to be that European televisions have this thing called RGB Scart and it's different from what American systems use, and Wii's NTSC games don't work properly with RGB Scart. Our newer TV has two places for SCART and the other one is probably S-video and we assume RGB would have worked with that one.

But it doesn't really matter anymore, rami and I bought a new television today and we'll get it next week so all is good.

Well, something like this fits in both forums but basically you are correct. I figured people here would be able to help with this one.
