Man DN that logic doesn't work at all! Would you consider Batman a superhero?

Also Tony Stark is pretty much a technological genius so I consider that a super power anyway.

ALSO also yeah 10% thrust was pretty awesome, I wasn't expecting that. I really liked his line "Yeah... I can fly", especially since we saw it in the trailer and it was executed pretty coolly.

no, technically he is a costumed crimefighter.

exactly this

jesuschrist the people in front of me were so fucking annoying, especially during the previews

I didn't know ANYTHING about the comic or the movie before seeing this, and I was very pleasantly surprised. The dialogue was really interesting and clever, especially at the beginning of the movie. Everything was well made and just FUN to watch. I liked the modernity of everything.

When I saw it at opening, there were beach balls being thrown around and people were laying around in the stairs and aisles. It all calmed down during the movie though.

yeah i liked the humor in this. some of it was predictable (like his robot and the fire extinguisher) but a lot of it is snarky and wittier than what you'd get from a usual superhero flick.

especially the end with pepper where you think she's going to fall heads over heels with him but she throws out that great line.

Yeah it was a damn good movie and Downey fit the role pretty nicely, its the best superhero movie I've seen yet.

UGH I KNOW.

I had the misfortunate of sitting next to a guy that LAUGHED OUT LOUD (ALONE) at the scene where I couldn't believe it. Is there any more of an inappropriate time to laugh in this film?!

I went to a matinee showing, and I'm glad I did in a way.  It was cheaper, but notably the theatre was pretty much empty except for my friends and myself.  There was one annoying guy who sat in front of me and kept bumping into my legs a few times, but it didn't really bother me once I started really getting into the movie.

Yeah, I should've gone earlier, but it takes until late in the day to go anywhere at all.  The show I saw was at around seven and honestly it was just fucking packed.  Not just packed, though, packed with nerds.  They laughed at the dumbest, least funny shit, and not only did they laugh, they CHEERED.  Like when Tony flies back into the wall or whatever during that test, the entire theater erupted into YEAAAAAH WOOOOOO, and they did the same when he felt through the house onto that car and then.... got hosed down (lol finishing touch).  For like 15 seconds they'd just cheer.  Also I stayed after the credits because I knew SOMETHING happened and had to sit through six minutes of credits while hearing a debate between nerds about what rating the Punisher should've gotten, and why there wasn't anything wrong with X-Men 3, until finally the part with Jackson came and as soon as his face came out of the shadows you just heard like two dozen nerds go wild.  Like clearly the type of people you find in WoW making Chuck Norris and Snakes on a Plane jokes.  fkdjsfakjf i hate them so much

The movie ended with him saying something about the Avengers and they didn't even cheer, they just.... all came in their pants.  No yells or claps, just OHHHHHHHH YEAAAAAHs and DUUUUUUUUUUDEs.  Like they were clearly getting physical pleasure from a Samuel L Jackson cameo where he mentions the Avengers.  I hate seeing movies in theaters, but I hate seeing movies in theaters with nerds so so so so so much more.

Just saw this tonight and thought it was really good. It had a great plot and focused on only a few characters so the you will got in touch with them, which is important in every film imo. Robert Downey Jr was great. I think it was him that really sold the film. The special effects were outstanding and the ending was one of the coolest things hollywood has done in a while. There were a few plot holes, namely him getting away with making the suit in the cave for 3 months un-noticed, but I let this slide as it's a super-hero film.

Hopefully the sequel will be as good as this. I'm a little worried though as I think this movie was great becuase there wasn't actual much of the Iron Man fighting shit and more about the characters and story. Hopefully the sequel will have a new spin on things so it isn't just Iron Man fighting for the whole film like in Spiderman 3

What gets me about this movie is that Tony Stark makes very mean and inappropriate comments throughout the entire movie, yet you are still pulled to his side. Some things he says aren't even totally mean, but the way he says them just seems offensive, but no one reacts, as if they are used to it maybe?

But maybe it's because the "i finally know what I have to do" speech that turns it around, because I was rooting for him the whole time, no doubt.

he did kind of have sex with loads of women and treat them without any respect at all, he was kind of a bad dude.

he's also an alcoholic which they somewhat downplay.

yeah when i told my brother he should check it out, he said he'd seen the director doing some interview where he was talking about how it wouldn't just be a light-hearted superhero movie, and instead focus on his alcoholism and shit, so he was disappointed when i told him it didn't take itself very seriously.  that was the first time i'd heard anything about alcoholism or anything like that!

also yeah the guy was a dick.  he disappeared and had that woman escorted out of his house after his personal assistant called her trash instead of saying WELL I GOTTA GO CALL YA like a decent human being.

One night stands are a pretty standard thing, especially if you have to get up in the morning.

I was referring to little comments like "Vacation is over" to Pepper Potts when he returns from Afghanistan. (no spoilers, it's in the trailer) Obviously that's just one instance, but come on, that's kinda harsh to the closest person to him in the world.
Like I said though, at some point he came full circle and had me won over.

ps, they touch on the alcoholism a tad, specifically the scene i mentioned above, but favreau has said himself that he wants to do the demon in a bottle storyline in one of the other two movies.

Marvel Entertainment released their first quarter report to its shareholders this morning to coincide with the announcement about the success this past weekend of Marvel Studios' first production Iron Man, which grossed an estimated $104.2 million domestically and over $201 million worldwide. The announcement included an update of Marvel Studios' feature film slate with the already-rumored Iron Man 2 announced for a release on April 30, 2010, followed by three more movies for the summers of '10 and '11. Matthew Vaughn's Thor is set for a release on June 4, 2010, and The First Avenger: Captain America (the working title) will kick off the summer of 2011 on May 6, followed by the highly-anticipated and foreshadowed The Avengers scheduled for July 2011. (Edgar Wright's Ant-Man is also listed as being in development with no release date set.)

In a conference call this morning, Marvel Studios' David Maisel said that Iron Man 2 will be used to introduce Thor. Regarding more "Hulk" movies, Maisel said "We definitely plan on continuing." He added that development continues on Spider-Man 4. "I can't give any other updates other than to say it's in development and everybody's excited about 'Spider-Man 4,'" he said.

I thought this would be shit after seeing a medieval-looking suit knock down a metal door to Black Sabbath's Iron Man in the trailer, and then some guy in a stupid superhero suit flying around and fighting jet planes.

But hot damn people are all over this even moer than like... GTA4. I'm seeing this shit. Am I right in expecting:
- stupid plot so some guy in an iron suit can kill terrorists
- ACTION ACTION DIE DIE BURN HECK FIRE

Shit they better not make Spider-man 4.

Also the 'end of vacation' comment seemed like a joke, I don't think he was serious!

doing it like that is not. and let's not forget the fact he prided himself on having sex with all these women and not giving a shit about them afterwards.

he's kind of supposed to be established as an asshole, this isn't really a debate.

yeah, I mean Downey Jr even said the toughest challenge was making his character, who is an asshole be a likeable character. His tone, isn't 'cuntish', but the you can tell he's a player. Saying this, I think that reporter deserved to be tossed out, she was a bitch.
