So, I have come to a road that I must follow. I know how to go down the roads, but not which one to take. I want some opinions from GW. I have a NES and a SNES that I own with about 20 games for the NES and about 15 for the SNES. I was wondering, since I don't play them, should I sell them to a game store? I only have them to say that I have them. I have some good/rare games for each. Yet, they just gather dust in my room, and that's it. However, I may feel rather guilty after getting rid of them even though they serve no real purpose, since I beat the games anyhow and whatever old games I want to play now I just get a ROM for.

Also, this may sound stupid. With a portion of that money, aside from other purposes, I have come down to two decisions:

A) Buy a Gameboy Advance SP. This is the cheaper option since it costs less than half as much as a DS lite(my choice if I were to get a DS), plus the games also cost less and have a larger library. I can also play gameboy/gameboy color games. The games aren't as advanced as DS games, though.

B)Buy a DS lite. This will open me up to more recent games, but it is also the more expensive route. The DS lite is 129.99, plus games run, on average 25-30 USD. I don't have a job which makes this especially bad.

To further help my decision, what games will be coming out on the DS that are worth looking at? Any advice/opinions are greatly appreciated!!

most games play better on a console so, I'd keep them.  Then again I suffer from, "Once I get rid of it, I want to play it" Syndrome.  If you don't suffer from this, get the ROMS for said games, and sell them to a game store that will actually give you a decent amount (Read: Not GameStop)

You should try to get $5 for the less rare games, and $10-$15 for rarer games (that may not seem like much when they sell them for $25-$50+, but you are NOT going to get that much back)

Also, I'd try to get a DS, I don't know what games are coming out soon, but since it's the newer one, and Nintendo hasn't announce another handheld, it will probably be the system-de-jour for portable games.

Do whatever you want with most of them but for gods sake save the rare ones. Or sell them at a good price, not to some shitty game store! Depending on the games you can get a LOT of money from them, so don't give them away for shit money to EBgames or whatever! Their value will rise with age, so if you keep them for a few years you'll make some good money off of them assuming you know when to sell them - and also assuming they actually are rare games people want.

"that may not seem like much when they sell them for $25-$50+, but you are NOT going to get that much back"
Worst advice ever. Check what you can get for the games, and don't sell them for any less. There's always a good place to sell it on the internet if you can't figure anything else.

As for what to buy? You're going to buy a DS Lite, with a flash cart, and then you're going to download all the games. YOu know what the DS lite costs, and a flash cart plus memory stick won't cost more than 50-60$. After that you're not going to pay for a single goddamn thing ever again for your DS. The R4 Revolution works wonders, I don't think it plays GBA games though, so that's a bummer, but I can't recommend any other cart since I haven't tried any other cart.

If anyone was wondering what games I have, here is a list. Please note that I am not putting every game that I have. I will only tell you of the more well known games, and not SUPER ALLSTAR BASKETBALL '87 for the NES.

NES:
-Bubble Bobble
-Punch Out
-Dragon Warrior
-Metroid
-Super Mario Brothers 1, 2, and 3
-Final Fantasy
-Dragon Warrior
-Crystalis

SNES:
-Super Metroid
-Yoshi's Island
-Mario Paint
-Illusion of Gaia
-Final Fantasy IV, VI, and Mystic Quest
-Secret of Mana
-Super Mario RPG
-Chrono Trigger+box, maps, manual, etc.
-Street Fighter II

EDIT: Bisse, thanks for the flash cart idea. I was considering that, but I wasn't sure. Where should I buy an R4? Is it pretty reliable? This may sound dumb, but I am a bit apprehensive of my games getting deleted somehow.

EDIT2:Sorry, didn't see you posted a link for it.

I have an r4, works great. You get to download and play dumb games like zack and cody, and just try out all games for free. It makes sense economically. You pay for r4and save on the games.

Do I have to buy an SD card separately? Can I play SNES, NES, etc. games on the R4, too?

just think of it this way. in 40 years, you will clean out your closet, and you will see your old SNES and NES, and you will instantly have tears in your eyes from the beauty of how nostalgia still encumbers your life in ways you cannot imagine yet. So yes, keep them.

It also makes sense economically to rob convenience stores but it's illegal and unethical.

On topic: You'd probably be happier with a DS over a Game Boy in the long run.  I guess you have limited income since you are in high school or whatever but you probably won't be for very long and even then I bet you a thousand dollars that pretty soon you'll get some random high schooler job to pay for booze, doritos, and video games.  Buying a Game Boy is not a very good long-term decision in terms of gaming as it is a dead format.  Plus, the DS plays Game Boy games anyway so you still have access to those (however the screen is a little smaller and when the original size is already tiny a millimeter or two makes a difference).

But in all seriousness I'd recommend you get a fucking job and keep your classic games and buy new video games with the money you earn.  I'm assuming you are in school and that is why you do not work.  If that is not the case then shame on you man Jesus Christ.  For someone in school, even working like two nights a week you'll have more spending cash than someone that doesn't pay rent knows what to do with.  Either that or beg your parents for dough which worked for me when I was 16 (that is why I am a bad person).  I know that you aren't playing your classic games so they're just junk now and I generally don't advise packratting but it's sort of like keeping your old action figures where you'll regret it for the rest of your life if you sell them to get money for candy and hookers.  Also I bet you in 30 years that copy of Dragon Warrior will be worth a ridiculous sum of money rather than a decent amount right now.

NES and SNES games are only valuable as collectors items.  Anyone can play the ROM, the arcade version, the upgraded version, or whatever.

That said, you have some extremely valuable games.  Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger sell for a lot.  But only because of the sentimental value of the cartridge.  Even I feel tempted to pay at least $20 for one of those games simply for sentimental value.  Imagine what they will sell for when we're old men trying to recapture the nostalgia of our youth.

So hold on to your games and get a job.

Forget selling I want to know where to buy 'em

Edit: Oh yeah maybe I should get on ebay or something

I dunno I really just want the experience of playing a game on a TV especially a translated one so it's like new game but just like old times - so emulators would be ok I'm just a kunt and can't enjoy sitting at a computer and doing it

Man, stop with this. This is like the third time I've seen you bitch about pirating. It's illegal, it's wrong, people get it.

I would HIGHLY recommend against selling these!! Back in the day, I sold my SNES... including FF3, FF2, Secret of Mana, original copy of Earthbound with the booklet!! (damn I was stupid!) etc.  And I ended up having to root through eBay to buy it all back a few years later when I started getting nostalgic.

HOWEVER - if you are interested in selling these,  I'd love to take a few off your hands :P

I can't think of a single major game store that will actually take SNES and NES games.  If you take them to a pawn shop, they'll just scoff at you and offer MAYBE 20 bux for the entire package.  If you actually want money, ebay is your best bet.

If you're really serious about selling, then I'm pretty serious about buying.  Just name a price.

Theres a personal owned game store around here that will give a decent amount for them, just not a great price. I think I know what I will do now. I think I will just sell games that aren't very significant, plus my 64, and maybe my atari but probably not.

All version of the Atari and the N64 were so mass produced that they're practically value-less.  You might as well sell them because I doubt you'd get much on ebay for the things.

There are all sorts of indie game stores that have enormous stocks of old crap.  Usually every small city will have at least one and metropolitan areas will have several within a convenient drive.  Sometimes you see things like Dragon Warrior IV for $100 or whatever.  So it's not that unusual that he might have a similar store that could give him decent scratch for his collection.

But yeah I don't think Gamestop will even take PSOne games and stuff and that's probably what you mean.

Yeah you have to buy the SD card separately. However, there are emulators for NES and SNES designed for the DS. A lot of NES games work flawlessly on the DS but there are also a lot of issues with SNES games(some of them work but they have graphical problems and such).
