This company, High Voltage Software, has made an engine for the Wii, like Unreal Engine 3, which puts just about every game on the Wii to same (perhaps including Brawl!) Just check out the tech demo and screenshots here: The Conduit and Quantum3

Of course, whats really going to be exciting, is to see how Square-Enix are gonna match this engine, because after seeing what they've pushed onto the DS, I think they are gonna make great things with The Crystal Bearers (although it might only look as good as it did in the first gameplay trailer...).

sweet. gamers have been waiting for selectable embossed-styled bump lighting for a long time.

uum.

I don't really think it looks very good at all. Maybe it's the models or textures but I think it looks bland, uninteresting and kind of low-tech. The low-tech part isn't a problem, but the bland and uninteresting is.

I'm not impressed.
I'm no expert or anything, but man those screenshots are lacking some anti-aliasing. Not to mention the textures aren't even close to that even Half Life 2(an almost 4 year old game). It seems all they talked about in the video was 5 year old technology. The draw distance is horrible as well, compared to the games out now. IMO this puts nothing to shame.

Okay, I didn't really check out the screenshots very carefully. The Conduit is ugly so far (pre-alpha stage anyone?)

But PLEASE check out the tech video. Because it IS impressive, considering what we've seen so far from third part wii projects.

I saw the video. I thought the Wii was already capable of doing this. And didn't some people say that the Unreal 3 engine could be ported to the Wii or something?

Dude most of the time you post I can't even understand what you are trying to say.

I think that gamers' focus on the middleware that the industry uses is completely retarted because it really has nothing to do with how good or even how attractive the game is going to be.  Also that FPS doesn't look particularly fantastic.

How a a vid of an engine showcasing the Wii's graphics as impressive when we've seen PC, 360, & PS3 games?

:fogetlaugh: you're kidding right? No one can match Square man. They're like the GOD of graphics. You can't even attempt to match Square against some 'engine' on the Wii, ( because they'll most likely blow it apart).

Indeed, although I'd hope that the tech video shows what is possible under practical conditions as the game as it stands now at the least only looks decent.  Would be nice if the final result came out looking like that tech vid., but we'll see I suppose.  In any case it certainly helps when a dev. tries to tap into the Wii somewhat whether it be the controls or otherwise.  Godfather, Zack and Wiki and No More Heroes are three of my favorite games on Wii because they are genuinely decent to great games that seemed intent on maximizing on some aspect of the machine. (though mostly in controls, I suppose, those Zack and Wiki is a damn fine game in looks too)

apart from in game graphics square are really far behind guys like Crytech, Valve, 2k etc etc. (Heck let's face it Crysis in game looks more solid than Square's cutscenes *_*)

Dudes this isn't meant to be like "WOW WII IS A TECH POWERHOUSE". It's meant to be "we can now apply these four year old effects to the wii, which people didn't think possible". Like I mean it's not gunna be able to compare to £2000 GAMING RIG RUNNING CRYSIS ON FULL RES. For console graphics (heh, imagine me takling down when I use the words console and graphics in the same sentence... like the dirt beneath my feet) I guess it looks ok, like it can hold it's own against average PS3/Xbox360 title. For being a wii demo, it looks very good (the absense of cliche big eyed cartoon characters of course makes it look somewhat better than it's competition... let's face it)
In game with blinding amounts of bloom, shaders creating random smoke to obscure shit and such it'd probably look low-end current gen. Which for the wii is very impressive, you can't really deny it.

The tech demo doesn't even look so good. Other Wii games actually look better than this.

The tech demo guy is so full of himself though. THIS IS NOT PRE-RENDERED! IT'S LIVE! NO POST-EFFECTS WERE USED!

Oh yeah, forget the framerate is like, 20FPS.

 :fogetgasp:

you mean ingame cutscenes, or the FMV's, (like the opening FMV), because I KNOW it cant be like the FMV's. If somehow in the universe it IS, then I'm so  :fogetinsane:

ingame scenes are scripted scenes, cutscenes are fmvs.

also

but it's for PC, and like graphics wise PC always seems to be 3-5 years ahead of consoles (like how consoles are only now being able to do shit like HL2 which came out in 2004)
I think PS3 can only run Crysis on it's medium settings (out of low-medium-high-very high), it is a very graphics intensive game!

Also HL2 Lost Coast came out in like 2005 and that had:

No One Lives Forever 2 looks much better and it was released 6 years ago... The Wii would probably be better suited to quirky FPS games like the Time Splitters series, something more artistic with attention to finer details that aren't graphically intensive.

It's not like Unreal Engine 3 and Square are not the gods of graphics, they're just a bunch of knuckleheads.
Also Final Fantasy FMVs can't really be compared to Crysis at all.

Crysis was pseudo-good, it lured you in and then sucked without you even knowing it. As good as the graphics are, there were plenty more console games that I would consider better artistically. That's pretty much why Wii developers should concentrate on not doing generic shooters that won't compete with the other consoles and come up with something  a little more creative.

Alright, the Wii can finally emulate the look of a 2001 computer!

Hey, maybe the conduit engine can run Deus Ex and Thief II?

Oh shit, do you know what would be cool?  IF THEY TOTALLY PORTED BROTHER'S IN ARMS ROAD TO HILL 30!!!  I loved playing that game 4 years ago and sure would love to play it again today!
