http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/07/rumor-microsoft-making-motion-sensing-xbox-360-wiimote/

Rumor has it that Microsoft is now trying to replicate the Wii's famous input device, in a bid to try to coax more ports over to their system, and make the 360 more appealing to Wii fans.

Of course MS appears to be struggling with pre-production woes, but is anyone surprised?

What do you guys think about this, is this going to give 360 the edge it needs to nudge out the Wii, or just some hyped plastic piece of fodder, doomed to fall flat on it's face?

Not as bad as Sony's Transforming Controller.

I actually can't see this being anything but a rumor if the story intends to suggest MS plans to release this during the ongoing tenure of the existing XBOX 360.  Otherwise, I honestly don't see the proposed goal of attracting Wii consumers (potential or otherwise) working out all that well.  The biggest benefit to the Wii remote is that everyone who buys a Wii will own one; 100% market penetration which goes without saying as that is the basic console package.  With nearly 20 million consoles out in the world right now, starting that kind of initiative is kind of "iffy."  I'd like to think that it takes more than simply borrowing your competitor's ideas but also the executation of those ideas and then capitalizing on their faults to create a better more attractive product.

The explanation in the article above really seems to only suggest that if this is true, the company is content with simply playing follow the leader and I'm not entirely sure that is going to work in their favor.  They might be better off trying to tackle something like that at the start of a new generation for reasons that are otherwise obvious.

Its just some shit thats rarely used since many OVER used it.  Some of games do use it in pretty good ways though, but its not anything that special.

Sixaxis is alright in some games. It's really a giant burden. In games like Ratchet and Clank, and Heavenly Sword, you can use it to control projectiles/whathaveyou... these games they allow you to switch to Analog mode... so we don't have to sit awkwardly to play a freakin' game. Other games, like High Velocity Bowling, give you no option; and it's always a bitch to use.

I think Warhawk is the only REALLY GOOD example of well used Sixaxis. It takes some serious learning curveage, but when you get the hang of it you can control your fighterjet with the motion sensor, and aim your weapons and camera with analogs. This basically gives you far more control in air combat than previously with analogs only.

No idea what the heck this transformer controller is, and after buying two DualShock 3's I don't exactly WANT to know. (though I literally imagine a black robot transformer with the red controller slot lights for eyes.

Folklore did a good job with 6a6 also.

Oh well, since MTV is kinda involved it may be turn out to be real. And if it's real that's pretty fucking lame.
